So I’m looking at buying my friends moms Suburban but it’s out in SoCal and I’m in Tennessee- instead of going out there and loading it on my stepdeck and hauling it home I figured I’d see what it would cost to get it shipped out- filled out one of those online quotes (big mistake- auto brokers are way worse than freight) and discovered the wide world of auto transport ########-

If I’m going to pay to have it shipped I’d rather just pay a fellow O/O directly instead of some goober in his Pjs taking half the money from behind a computer in his moms basement-

Any tips from car haulers how to book a move- I’m starting to think a load to Cali then loading the Suburban and a partial behind it might be easier but I really don’t like going that far west lol

Post it on a load board or a Classified ad on this website.
Do a web search for auto transporter.
I have hauled from shippers that list directly on load boards. I don't know how to post a load.
    Good luck.

You might have trouble finding somebody willing to haul it for you. There is a huge shortage of new cars across the US from the pandemic, and used cars are selling at a premium. Small hot-shot carriers and regular car haulers have more work than they know what to do with, and their rates are way up. You would probably be much better off driving to SoCal and putting it on your step deck, and maybe finding a partial load for the rest of your trailer to offset the cost of the extra miles.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking I’m going to do- I know the freight side is crazy- didn’t think about the car shortage working that side crazy- the way rates have been I probably could still come out ahead with just a single partial for the return trip

Not to mention that the rates even for a partial load out of CA will be much better than a full load going into CA.

I’d go get it just to avoid dealing with the scummy car haulers.
I have never had a positive interaction with the brokers or the drivers.
Every one involved with that segment of the industry I’ve dealt with was total scum. From wanting a deposit to list your car on the load boards to the Russian and other foreign drivers demanding to be paid in cash so they don’t have to pay income tax. we had a pickup moved from AZ to NC and I just found a friend of a friend who was coming from CA to NC in their F-250 and paid them $800 to use their 18 foot trailer to haul it .

Take a load in and grab it yourself. You already know you'll have plenty of deck space left for a partial or two coming back.

The reason people demand to be paid in cash is there are so many people issue rubber checks , its just not worth to go after them for 500/1000/1200 , also i never checked anyone dl or id or was sure this is their home address where i drop the car ....other story with dealerships or shops ( that dont look like mickey mouse house ( those pay cash also just by looking at them ))
...what about people signing clean inspection and file claim 3 days later , you think they wouldn't stop the check they gave you - another reason

How about you hook me up with a great deal on hauling a 20 foot shipping container out of so cal up to new mexico and still have room for your suburban.
Actually you might could load the suburban into the empty shipping container and still have room for a partial

    Not buying that excuse.
They want cash so the Russian drivers don’t have to pay taxes .
