I recently started driving and have gotten a truck with an APU.
I have a coleman 12v cooler, but want a small fridge that has a small freezer compartment. But I don't need one that pulls a constant 400-500 watts,as that would make my APU run constantly to power it.
Does anyone have a fridge with freezer, and know how many watts it uses?
need a fridge/freezer for truck. Advice?

Did a search and this thread came up, so I'm reviving it. Anyone know of a small freezer that we could use in our trucks?

Do another search looking for a 12 volt refrigerator/freezer. I think Edgestar is 1 brand, there are others where the whole thing could be used as a freezer.

Do you want one strictly to run from APU? or also from electrical system? (heck you can get them to run off LP as well if you want)
Do you want a installed unit? I hauled some last month. IIRC they were $650 to $1200 depending on size/power sources. (These were units designed to be installed in sleeper) Or do you want a "dorm" fridge to bungee strap in cab?

I had 1.1 cube dorm fridge in my old truck. Ran it off a 1500 watt invertor on my batteries. A fridge only pulls power when the compressor is running and only pulls peak power when the compressor first starts.
Now that said, it worked ok. But it is not designed to be bounces around and anything in the freezer was always falling out. Also they are not frost free. That's why they come wirh a drip pan for under the freezer. So you have to stay on top of wiping them dry.
With my new truck I just said to heck with screwing around with a dorm fridge and had Weaco installed ... I love the thing. -
