Hey, gotta let my dm guy know tonight when I'm ready to go, he said if I had some names of mentors id like to let him know and he'd try to work it out, tried getting ahold of bluebonn, since he's highly reccomended but haven't heard back, so anyone have any tips, I need someone who's not a screamer and who actually wants to teach me, not just use me..lol..preferably someone laid back with a positive attitude..need to talk to dm later tonight so anyone out there got some ideas?

    Thanks

I'm supposed to start orientation next Monday. I could also use some Mentor recommendations.

you don't get to interview your mentor.when i did it back about 2005,i let the co-ordinator know my absolute rules of the truck.the biggest prob. i had was guys wanting to be home every weekend.even when they got on my truck, they tried to change the rules.i'm a non-smoker,and guys would start to smoke,or want to stop every hour to smoke.be happy you get none, and then if there is a major conflict, then request a change.

Rules are one thing..being a complete ####### about every little thing and screaming at the top of your lungs and calling people names is another story..and I still don't understand how someone takes a OTR job and then complains about not being home every weekend?..I'm too laid back to learn anything from someone who screams and yells and gets road rage..my brain turns off when the yelling starts..its unprofessional and uncalled for..making fun of someone nonstop for calling his wife and kids to say goodnight, and not allowing any cell phone use even on your off time is unacceptable..just saying that there are rules and that's fine, but a mentor is not your daddy and does not have the right to dictate every single thing you do..they are suppose to teach you, not use you..my last guy flat told me he hated being a mentor and only did it cause that was how he made his truck payment..I'm not there to make your truck payment..I'm there to learn how to drive and how to live on the road.

And maybe there would be less problems if the student DID interview the mentor and pick his own, seems to me like its the student who's on the line for the money, and its the students job to learn, so why shouldn't the student choose who he wants, then maybe that would weed out the ###### mentors?

They should have a ranking system based on performance of their students and evaluations by former students, and a list of references for prospective students to call to get information on them..that way the good ones keep busy and the bad ones improve..seems to me though that they are short on mentors and will pretty much take anyone as a mentor after they've been there for awhile, regardless of whether or not they "should"be a mentor...but that's just myy opinion..it is what it is
