I got my class a cdl 2 years ago. The first company that I went with I failed out of their training portion because my instructor would not let me back the truck up. After that I couldn't find another trucking company to hire me so I had to get a normal job. I'm trying to get into trucking again but I'm running into problems. Either the companies want at least 6 months experience, want me to take a refresher course (which I can't afford to pay for nor can I afford to be without a job because if I take a week off I'll get fired from my current job), the companies that I have found in my area that offer refresher courses say that I need 6 months experiance to even take their course. All of the companies that say that say that they hire drivers with no experiance, keep telling me that I need 6 months experiance because I've been out of school for too long. That they only hire "no experiance" drivers if they are fresh out of school. Any advice? This is starting to feel like a "you need a car to get a job, but you need a job so you can get a car" situation.

You can keep trying to locate some jobs online with the various job sites. Try your local unemployment office website, for jobs boards. Then you can try various driver leasing companies in your area. Then you can try Craig's List for jobs.

If all else fails, then I don't know what to tell you other than seek refresher training at night or weekends.

Put where you live in your profile...general area. Be honest with yourself why it didn't work out the first time around.

I've tried at least 20 different companies and one that sends your app to a lot of companies. Is there some sort of finical aid that can help pay for a refresher class? I've looked but I couldn't find anything. There are tons of sites that help pay for cdl school but I didn't see any that help pay for a refresher

I am being honest about why it didn't work out the first time around. The 2 weeks that I was training, my instructor didn't let me back the truck up once

So....after 2 weeks they let you go? Did you communicate with the company that you were not receiving the proper training?

Yes and they said to take it up with my instructor. Which I did and he kept blowing me off. I passed everything except the 90 degree backing
