Try your local waste management places. I drove a class b truck roll off dumpsters. Fun job 8-6. Hope you have a strong stomach those dumps are ripe in the summer. :D

New guys on food service are going to have crappy start times. Like 1 am. And you'll probably work weekends. He's also probably refering to the extremely physical nature of the job. Don't know how old OP is but food service is a young man's game. For every guy that makes it past 40 years old still working for service, there are 20 guys who quit way before then.

You can’t generalize an entire industry like that. As with everything in trucking, it depends on the company and location. When I did it, I started off with a 4-day bid that had a 5am start most days. As the bottom driver, I was forced in on my weekday off a few times, but never on a weekend.

Dude, I understand wanting to get off night shift. BTDT and it eats your life. Having a family, you should probably get to see them for more than 15 minutes a day.

But there seems to be a whole lot of "I don't wanna" going on here. Don't like city work? (I ran city for years and liked it way more than linehaul even though it was a substantial pay cut) Tough. If it gives you more time with your family, it doesn't matter whether you like it or not. Don't want to work weekend days? Hey, if you're spending more time with your family in a conscious state, suck it up. Don't want to start before 0600? An early shift is better than not seeing your family much. "I've never done XYZ?" Then be willing to learn.

I will agree with you on foodservice. I did it for four years and noped on out of there--it will destroy your body in the long term. But dang, man, you seem to want your dream job handed to you on a platter, and life just don't work like that.
