If your not anywhere in OHIO right now...be glad!! I am a new permit holder...about to hit the road to drive for the first time..MY new boss...an O/O Bullhauler is about to take me on the road hauling a trailer full of bulls!! I have never been out of 1st gear. He believes getting behind the wheel is the best training. Im scared sheetless! Its an 18spd Peterbilt monster and I have to learn to drive and shift!! I want this so bad but I think hes bat sheet crazy! Any other drivers lean this way? Jusy by jumping behind the wheel and getting to it? Im waiting on him to pull up at the house and Im curious what anyone thinks...

You will love floating gears! Especially in traffic. It will save your knees! Sounds like you have gotten a pretty good opportunity right out of the gate. There's no better way to learn the real world! Keep in mind you have live animals back there and the more you jerk and shift and turn the more your load is going to shift. You want to really refine all of your movements.

Don't be afraid of all those gears. You won't use but half those. Also your bulls should weight about half that too!

I'm sure you will do just fine out there. My wife drove team with me and we hauled horses and she did great! So being a lady will have no factor in your driving. Take your time, drive that truck like a dinosaur and try not to pick up any "supertrucker" habits from your trainer.

in 1979 my boss says these 10 wheelers arte not big enough
we need travtor trailers within 2 weeks he had bought 2
went to the DMV and his cousin stamped our license
we were now tractor trailer drivers
a OTR driver sitting over the weekend taught us how to back up in the yard
and Monday morning I went sailing down the highway grinding gears

my wife learned the same way, take the bull by the horns,[ha, ha] when i learned ihe first time it was with a set of doubles [sheetrock] on an icy road in the mountians at night, and it was snowing. i got the 130,000lbs going and told my buddy/trainer "this is not so hard", thats when he told me it's not hard getting going, it's the stopping that's the hard part. sounds like you'll do just fine just relax and pay attention
