Nothing down to start. The $75/wk started for me when I was released to solo. I'm sure that it starts shortly after graduation if you don't drive for Swift.
One bonus is that the Swift Academy is PTDI certified, which means that it'll be accepted at pretty much any starter company.
Also, check with the company you intend to drive for, and see if they have any form of tuition reimbursement. Many of them do. -
Johnson county community college , I think is about a grand . Use a grand to live in a hotel and save 2 grand?
Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
I just graduated from Shippers Choice (Chester Campus), I must have straight and curve backed about 3 million times. Also did parallel parking. The first thing we did every day after signing in was our pre trips. The Classroom portion was very thorough, the instructors were awesome and there was many recruiters coming through trying to get you to sign up with them. We did a lot of driving around but focused on the actual DMV route to improve your chances of passing. When we were at the point on the range of getting it right every single time they'd make it harder to sharpen you up. They spent all the extra time they needed with the guys that needed extra help until they got it. I'd assume all their campuses are doing close to the same thing. I'm very happy with what I got out of them.

Southside Virginia Community College.
Very reputable. Great trainers and they have great relationships with many great companies...TMC, U.S Xpress, WSE, McElroy...etc.
6 weeks and your done. Located on a military base in Blackstone, VA. -
I believe its only about $2200 took take CDL course.
They also offer to stay on campus in the barracks.
One of the best schools ever.
They also offer heavy diesl training, diesel mechanic training and more. There lots of backing, driving, pre-tripping, general knowledge...etc.
Very thorough!!! -

FYI, school simply trains you to get your license. You'll learn how to be a trucker once you get out with your trainer after you've been hired by a company.to truck or not to truck Thanks this.
