If you have a failed drug test on your DAC, you will have a problem getting hired by any carrier that subscribes to their service. Getting fired is not the end of the world and will not necessarily prevent you from getting hired by another carrier, depending on the circumstances or reason you were fired. If Swift didn't fire you then you should try to get that changed from your record. If you were fired from Swift due to drugs, then you will probably have a problem for several years. The first thing you need to do is get off drugs. This is not a job that you can do what you please when it comes to drugs or drinking. It must be devastating dealing with losing a spouse. But, you need to get yourself together. Since you have driven for a living you know that drug testing is part of the job requirements. You should know that when you go to orientation you will be required to take a drug test. Pot can be detected for several months after your last use. Some carriers use hair follicle testing as part of their screening process. It would be better to drink a beer than smoke pot. If you plan on driving for a living it would be best to stay off everything, including alcohol. If you want to drink then do it when you know you will be home. Some of the smaller carriers may not subscribe to DAC, but unless you can stay away from marijuana, it would be better for you to find something else to do until you can get yourself together. Good luck.

Nope, haven't smoked weed in probably 20 years, but yeah, it's ridiculous the stigma attached.
I'm pretty much in the same boat you are truckin101. I came off the road last June for the same reasons. I wasn't fired, and if you weren't, I'd be looking into it and get it straightened out.
Man, I feel for ya, really. And I do know something about weed. It's only a temporary relief, not worth a crap if you sit down and really think about it. Unfortunately, it's not acceptable in our so called society, and if you wanna play with the big boys, ya have to play like one.
I truly wish you luck getting back on the road, and really, I know exactly how you feel. -
I'm not about to take this man's incredible pain and turn this topic into another "legalize it" thread - shame on the couple that have tried - this guy lost his wife!
I agree with G/man.. a smaller carrier may be your only choice, all the big ones will see your DAC.. you could drive for a smaller company for several years, and probably love it, and wouldn't need to worry about the qualifications that would get you into a bigger comapny.
Heck, if someone is happy with a smaller company, I see no reason to look at a bigger one!U4EA, THBatMan8, truckin101 and 1 other person Thank this.
