I have driven with TSMT, previously SLT, as a Company Driver for about 15 months. I will have 3 yrs driving experience as of May, am divorced and 54 y/o. TSMT pays well and requires 1+ year of OTR experience, you must get hazmat and tanker endorsements, and have the ability to obtain a secret security clearance from the NSA and/or DOD. They have been attempting to find me a partner nearby to my home in Blairsville, GA... and have suggested that I try to find a suitable team-mate as well. A great partner for me would:
- be a non smoker... but vaping is OK,
- be respectful of my sleep time and keep noise level low,
- take regular showers and not trash the space like a slob,
- not be a political or religious zealot, and be respectful of others views,
- and be committed to earning as much as possible.
The good:
- daily pay, NOT mileage! Gross is $1,250/week (including expense reimbursement of about $50/day)... plus a hire bonus paid quarterly at BEGIN of each quarter in first year. Also, additional mileage bonus is paid weekly... up to $.10 based on your years of experience in trucking.
- we sit MANY weekends, but get paid anyway. Average driving each week is about 4K miles per team.
- high quality shippers... lots of military, explosives and hazmat.
- reasonable, industry standard benefits and they are NOT cheap-azzes... you will be FLOWN to orientation- not bussed!
The "not so good":
- Here is the "deal-killer" for most... this is OTR, and we need to be "out" for five weeks at a time before getting up to a week of home time. This is REALLY HARD on people... even ME. However, it is also why the pay is above average and guaranteed daily, not mileage based. I have lost more than one co-driver due to this requirement, and am trying myself to stay "committed" to this for at least another year because I'm able to save so much money. Don't under-estimate just how HARD this is... for me, I'm dying for home time after about 3 weeks and the last two are tough! The "quality" of this job will have everything to do with the "quality" of your co-driver... me, in this case. I had one partner for over 7 months and, although rocky at first, we both worked things out well and supported each other. He had to leave due to family obligations. I've also had some "whack-a-doos" that generally quit due to the irregular home time.
If you are interested, start a conversation with me and we'll exchange information. Thanks for considering this request... and I hope you might be interested.
