I would be willing to pull anything to get my foot in the door for tankers later. Got any advice on who to contact? Thanks

Schneider and Prime and Florida Rock & Tank.

Also here is a list of other tanker companies; apply with any you like and most important, ignore the "experience required" and apply anyway. Also, check what's available on Careerbuilder website.

Thanks so much China, from your experience, it's not that difficult of a hurdle then?

No, not difficult. It does require one to be more aggressive with the applications. Several drivers on this forum found very good jobs immediately after CDL graduation, such as with Loves Truckstops hauling diesel, CTL hauling acid, and other chemical tanker companies.

I appreciate it, I was over thinking thinking it as a risky move.

Smart move on your part. Food grade/tanker doesn't usually pay as well as hazmat/tanker annually; but, both provide a very good living. Once you get into hazmat, plan on making $60K + annually. You can do this within 12-24 months. If the only tanker job you can find right now is food grade, take it to get your tanker experience started.
