This is why you never EVER give notice to a trucking company when you quit

You can say you have a family emergency and need to get home right away and ask for a load near home terminal

or schedule a vacation and leave the truck at the terminal and that way you might even get your last paycheck

FYI they did threaten to call the police when I said I was just going to deadhead to their terminal even when I said I would pay for fuel.

It's pretty hard to win an arguments with your employer. Even if you win, you lose.

Once you pull the trigger, you have to deal with the results.

Telling your company that you are quitting, a thousand miles or more from home, in this industry with nearly any company...
And the funny thing is, the questions for advice come after the fact.

Didn't have any issues landing a new gig. They didn't put anything on my CDL (as far as I know). I had to park at one of their terminals and pay myself for a flight to their main terminal to get my car. I got the OK from them to do that so not a big deal.

they could try to call the police and file a stolen vehicle report but it would be illegal. This is an employer/employee dispute and as such is strictly a civil court matter. I have spoken with an attorney and insurance company about this subject. The police might or might not take the report but then the company would open to a claim of filing a false report.
