So I am completing Road masters at the end of this week and I live in the Tampa Fla area. I have offers but don't want to believe everything they say, so I want your thoughts on these companies. I am still trying to decide if over the road is for me, I don't think it is, because I do want quite a bit of home time maybe every weekend or every night if I can.
So far Warner made an offer (Heard to run from them as fast as I can)
    Rouel
    TransAm
    Knight
    US express
What can you tell me about these companies? Good? Bad? Home time? Beginning Salary and Benefits for family or driver only?
    Thanks guys!!!

Roadmaster pushes Werner a lot. Out of your list, I would say Roehl. I believe you can go regional with them from the start and get home weekly. Go to Roehl website and look at all the home time deals they have. Good luck with school!

Roehl has regional and may even have something dedicated down there where you are, it is true don't believe everything you hear and only half of everything you see and only25% of what you read, If you go with that philosophy, you will be fine, I'm wondering why you picked this career if you want to be home all of the time from the beginning, while there are a few jobs where you can get right on out of school most require you to go out over the road for a while, I'm not sure why, I think in town driving is the most difficult thing I've ever had to be patient with. Wherever you go don't start jumping ship all over the place, you will be labeled a job jumper and the companies will not want you.

Living in tampa and florida in general, limits you quite a bit.

I'd get a years experience and then look around.
Knight at least has a terminal near lakeland. I don't know about the other companies?

Good luck as a newbie getting home daily or weekly with that list in Central Florida. Werner maybe. Now LTL, Food Service, and Beverage companies maybe. One of the low paying Comcar companies will probably give you a look. But I'm not sure if CTL is still doing there thing around Tampa since Dilllon moved in.

If your trainer lives in the same area that you live in, then you will be home when your trainer take 2 days off. If your trainer lives 1,000 miles away you may be in a motel or sitting in a truck for a couple of days while your trainer takes time off.

When I went to truck driving school another student and started with the same company that I did. He was a smoker and they found him a trainer 1,000 miles from his home so he was gone 30 days before he made it back home. I am a non smoker and had a trainer 20 miles from my home so I was home every 12 days. My trainer had dental problems so they got him home more due to that so I was actually home more than I should have been.

See if the company will tell you which trainer you will be getting and where that trainer lives. Most likely they will not be able to tell you but if you can find one close to your home it could make a big difference.

Plenty of hometime is possible for a rookie if you do your research and live in the right area.

You need to find out which companies on your list have dedicated accounts near your home. I'd start with werner, us-x and ctl on your list. I think werner has a beer account in your area that probably has a bunch of dedicated drivers who see home most nights.

I'd suggest you worry more about finding the company that is the best fit with your needs instead of the best company overall. You're concerned only with a local job in central florida, not someone's problems with west coast otr.

The trainer companies will put you on a dedicated account with minimal experience compared to most non training companies. If you work the angles and time it right you probably can get assigned a trainer on the dedicated account your interested in if your willing to wait for a trainee slot to open.
