looking to buy my first truck, I've been a driver for a number of years over the road, I think i'm ready to make the jump from company too o/o with the company i currently work for, they will handle most of the permit, ifta, registration and other paperwork aspects for me, and its my understanding i can get the bobtail insurance through them. I've read plenty of threads on what to avoid when buying a used truck, but the question I have i haven't seen addressed yet
On most truck ads it shows the mileage, but it also shows ECM mileage, and my question with this truck im looking at, is the ECM has been replaced and it has 0 miles on it, so I'm wondering from the owner operators in here would you avoid a truck just because of an ECM change (possible problem child truck), or would you see that as a plus ... a part that won't need to be replaced anytime soon?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Need advice from o/o that have purchased used trucks

When you go to have it put on Dino. a must before you pick the truck out of the ones you like, just pay them to do a dot ck. and you can tell how many mi. it has on it by the wear on diff. parts of truck.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Okay so I read somewhere about the whole dino thing, so you're saying any truck i buy i should have an oil analysis and a Dyno done to it. The truck I'm looking at I would be purchasing through arrow truck sales, and I believe they already do the DOT inspection, ECM check for errors and all that good stuff before they even put it on the front line to be sold.
Would i still need the dino, and if so how much does that cost, and who does it for big rigs?blairandgretchen Thanks this. -

larger engine shops and some dealerships have them.

considering i'm purchasing it through a reputable dealer, and i might even pick up an extended warranty on it , do you really think it's still necessary to do the dino?
-
Yes. So you know what your engine will give you. My boss dynos all his new to him trucks. Money well spent.
In my own opinion. But I do not ownCoffey and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Also when purchasing it through a dealership like this, should they be able to provide maintenance records on the truck since they know the fleet that it came from, or if requested would they be able to obtain those records?
