i just received my oil report back. it says i have possible bearing material in the oil. it also states that that i have coolant additives in my oil. i think i have a serious problem. i have been off the road for 3 months fighting cancer. at this point i dont have a lot of money. i cannot afford to have a shop over charge me or charge me for more than what my problem is.
i need to know whaT this problem could be. i have been told cracked block at $10,000 blown head gasket at $4000. and cracked head at $6000.
does anyone out there have an answer . it is the CUMMINS ISX 2003 year
i am afraid to drive it the way it sits. the report was sent to me today but was done in october. i have no idea how much more damage has been done. i have been at home since then so maybe not much.
need advice on coolant in the oil

my friend DONT DRIVE IT it will wipe out your bearings in a hurry which means an out of frame major rebuild, now it could be all the things you mentioned but more then likly it is the liners in the engine which means an in frame you wont no for sure till you tear it down.
if you have bearing material in the oil already the damage is done it needa a rebuild no choice but at this point you may be abel to save the crank and again you wont no for sure till you tear it down. its tough i no but to run it like that will cost you a lot more. hope this has helped you. southwernpride -
It is probably just the oil cooler very common on the isx engine. Not a whole lot of money for that job. If it just has coolent additives in the oil and did come back positive on the glycol test then it is just starting but dont wait to get it fixed or it will just make more problems down the road. I have 15 isx engines in our fleet and oil and egr coolers have been a common failure but get it into a reputable shop and they should be able to give you an anwser

Ok, don't panic. Yes, oil cooler is the likely cause of the coolant in the oil, very common on earlier ISX. As for the bearing material, bearings will wear, you will have material show up on the report. I don't know how much is acceptable, but the tests we use have a column on the sheet that says whether it is acceptable or not. Errors do happen in the reporting and the way the sample is collected. We recommend getting at least two samples in a row with results that indicated a problem.

where did you get the sample done?
speedco gives you a good baselin to work with but if their results show something abnormal you need to get a more comprehensive sample done.
what were the actual results?
you are going to have some things show up as normal wear as stated above
coolant in the oil is not one of the normal things but it could be something as simple as an injector cup seal going bad if the tests indicated very little in the oil that would be my first guess.
moderate amount my guess would be head gasket, cracked liner, oil cooler, now if it shows that the Mississippi river is flowing thru your engine then look for a new engine, been there done that, lol -
Sorry to hear of the C word hope that works out
In addition to the above .With the engine cold crack the oil drain plug loose turn it out slowly if there is free antifreeze in the oil it should settle outand it will drain out first
ARE you loosing coolant ?
check the rad for oilly sludge
Did a funnel that was used for antifreeze get used for oil?
If there is no free anti freeze in the pan change the oil and moniter the anti freeze level
Hope this helps -
the report was done by mobile delvac accutrack. the report says a high amount.
