I knew a driver with one glass eye. It was always looking over my right shoulder when I talked to him. It made me feel like there was somebody lurking behind me about to club me on the back of the head. creepy.

If you pass all other aspects of the DOT physical, and you meet all vision requirements in the functioning eye, then you may be considered for a Federal Vision Exemption.

Doesnt mean they will grant it.

They actually did away with the vision waiver program. Nowadays you print a form off of the FMCSA website. Then, you have an eye doctor fill it out. After that you give that to the medical examiner, and you'll be given a 1-year card as long as everything else is ok

Eye technology is really amazing. My vision was so bad I couldn’t legally drive. My family gets cataracts early, I was 46 my sisters were barely in their 50’s. I had the surgery and I have better vision then I’ve ever had probably in my life. Surgery was 15 minutes each eye for lense implants and it was like a day recovery. Pretty painless to me. Don’t be scared if your vision is going. Eye technology is way more advanced nowadays.
