Been considering taking the step again and try to get a CDL and taking on truck driving. Was needing some advice on the few questions I have. Im looking for a company that offer CDL training and allow me the option to start out on a dedicated account. Im not interested in doing the 48 state running. Been there done that of 2 years expediting with Panther. Is something like this normal option? Can anyone point me to the direction to the companies that offer them. Thanks for any info

Probably not gonna have alot of luck getting set up on a dedicated run coming out of school, but you never know may luck up into something nice

i did it fresh out of school from swift. had to do the mentor thing. i slid into a dollar tree account and was home just about every other night. guaranteed home weekends. we had to unload our trailers though. so that ate up our 14 clock. thats the reason for home every weekend to get a reset.

Most of the companies that offer school if you hire on with the company are pretty bad. (C.R England being a perfect example)...
Your best bet if you want trucking school is to get a grant from your local jobs agency, which most states have. (like a work program that pays your tuition for truck school in effort to get people into jobs), or take out a loan to pay it and then get tuition reimbursement (which nearly all of the starter companies have, up to 4-6k paid to you for going to school, however it takes a while to get it all because they typically pay it back only 150$ a month or so). Or find a school that does financing (which a good amount do) where you can pay monthly payments once you start work, shouldn't be hard to pay off with a 800$+ weekly check.
As far as dedicated accounts for out of school driver, the main company I can think of is Schneider. They have a TON of dedicated accounts, all over the country, that they will put you on strait out of school as easy as if you were to try getting on OTR. My first job was with them and was a walmart dedicated. But don't assume dedicated means you'll be living it up at home a lot more, sure you'll sleep in your own bed maybe 3 or 4 nights a week but you'll be working a good 70 hours a week easily. The 5 on 2 days off schedules are slip seat and for the most part it is more like a 34 hour reset at home then a real 2 day off.
Any of the real kooshy jobs that get you home nightly after a 9 hour shift need great work history and a blank MVR for the most part (UPS Freight, USF, Estes, the LTL doubles companies etc).
But its hard to beat Schneider for a starter company, when I worked with them I did have my things that really pissed me off though (2nd and 3rd shift operations putting you on hold for a minimum of 50 minutes regardless of what day it is, when you really need driver support that very minute. Trucks that are governed down so bad that driving a hilly area cuts your MPH average to 30mph. I once took 2 and a half hours to run 55 miles on I-81 because I had to lug hills literally at 15mph, the governor not only stops you at 61mph but it cuts the RPM limit down so much that you can walk up hills faster. If you do the math, I made about 7 bucks an hour for that 2 hours of driving). But compaired to your swifts / cr englands / werners, its no contest, and certainly the only one of the big starter companies that put newbies on a dedicated more often then OTR. -
Off topic MooseGod but your signature caught my eye. So you really believe there is a difference between an "R" and a "D"?

Oh ok, well, if I might comment on that. There's nothing wrong with having principles on the issues, one way or another. That's as american as apple pie. But this false left right paradigm of "Republicans" and "Democrats". Those empty suits play us all for fools and they are all on the same team. Bush 43 was a big honcho "conservative" and in case you didn't know it he'd wear it on his sleeve and tell you it was so. Never mind what he did to the national debt. Obama was an anit-war candidate. The body bags are still coming home from Iraq and Afgahanistan. And we're even starting wars we have no business fighting in Libya, Syria, Iran and other places. That's your anti-war nobel peace prize president Obama. They all say one thing and do another. Normally the end result from a R or D is always the same, of course they spout empty rhetoric and lies, but the end result will always be the same. There is absolutely no difference between the two. They are both "r" and "d" establishment liars without one ounce of integrity. That was the point I wanted to make I'll step off the soapbox now..
