Hello guys, I am finally graduating from McFatter Technical School on March 6th. That's down here in Ft.Lauderdale, Florida. It was 320Hrs and I was lucky it was a night class with only 6 of us so there was a lot of hands on time and we got to do a few more things most classes dont get because of size. I trained with 9 speed,10, super10, and 13's. They also had flatbeds, lowboys and a tanker which I was able to drive in too. We took long trips every week and I ended up with 1,200 miles. Enough telling you guys how great this place was (coming from one of those 40hr mills) I have a worry that is causing me a lot of anxiety. I'm 22, I graduated high school and went on to college but didn't finish that. I am relocating with my girlfriend to either Statesboro or the pooler/savannah area by May, but don't know what I should be looking for. Main concern is age. I believe U.S. Express may take me, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them or know of any company in this those areas that would hire a graduate my age? Money isn't the biggest concern, I just want to put my time in at the best place possible for my experience which is none.

Werner, roehl, and schneider will all take you. TMC will not, along with pretty much any company you'd find appealing.
I got started at 21, so I had an extra year of crap to wade through over you, and I made it. Don't get stressed out too much about it. You've got more experience than 90% of the students out there, so you'll fare well with the worst of companies until you've earned your keep. Remember that most decent companiesrequire 1-2 years experience as well, so even if you were a year older, you'd be stuck with a slightly larger pool of companies you don't really want to work for.
Might want to take a look at Marten. They have a decent detention pay policy, and rookies will do a lot of sitting, so you might as well get paid for it. -
USX isn't a bad company, but I wasn't happy with the solo miles so I switched to team.
I'm from South Florida as well. If you are planning to move maybe you should do it sooner than later and switch your CDL to that state. That will open up more options for you. -
So, maybe switch my address to my in-laws while I'm stilling living here? I don't want to move without a job.

Yea, well. I'll tell you something, as soon as they hire me I'm out of here. No leases or anything holding me back. Girlfriend's got a transfer on hold for me to figure things out.

So at USX, what will be more or less the amount time out without stepping foot back in my home?

Crete/Shaffer will take you too if your school was PTDI certified. stay away from US Xpress and Covenant. plenty of info here on the forums about these two bottom feeders. give Crete a call. Shaffer is their refrigerated side. they also do flatbeds, under the name Hunt Transportation.
