Hello all,
I have been starting to look into owning and running a trucking company. I have been driving for about 5 years and know the basics. Also I have business knowledge.
My goal would be to run a slightly older truck with a flatbed setup
Anyway, I just want to ask guys who are doing this for some time now, Is it worth it? and if you had to do it again would you?
TIA - LB
Need advice.

Depends why you want to do it. I came from corporate jobs and couldn’t stand working for anyone else. My main reason for doing it is for freedom and knowing it’s all on me now. I always wanted a business and 2 years ago was a perfect time to get into trucking. I’d do it again. The instant gratification I got from becoming my own boss was life changing at the time. It literally cured some depression and made me happier.
Is it worth it - absolutely. Way more stressful, but a good kind of stress, and I would do it again. If you’re doing it for money - don’t. But with a good business mind and a year or two of solid running with minimal repairs, you can get your cushion and it relieves a lot of that financial strain.
Right now is NOT the time to get in. But that wasn’t your question.Dino soar Thanks this. -

It is what you make of it, if you are buying one truck to make money with, you will probably be disappointed and irritated, you can make a very good living, and have a better life then a company driver, but you will just be turning dollars
you can make money with ten of them, but then you need 9 other whiny ##### to drive each one, but if you end up with a good customer or your own freight it’s necessary evil,
if you do decide it is worth it, I would recommend waiting for the bubble to pop when inflation and fuel soars and people start to fire Sale their trucks, or Atleast until late spring to see how things start looking for the busy seasonDino soar Thanks this. -
Thanks everyone for the replies. I have looked at the market and people want 90k for a rolling trash can its insane! I cant stand working under people and it gives me more stress than owning a business, crazy. abyliks I completely trying to find people to take care of your equipment is like teaching a dog to talk. I see you are from ludlow MA, Im right below you in ct

I agree with asking the question why is it that you want to do this.
Money is the wrong answer.
For me, I was never happy working anywhere. They could have paid me a bazilian dollars and I would not have been happy.
I don't mind the extra work that I have to do to run my own business. I've always been that way and understood that that comes with the territory.
But doing it for money reasons is absolutely the wrong answer.Jed2009 Thanks this. -
If it’s because you can’t stand working for someone I get it.
But now the question goes to capital and if you can make it work for yourself. I got in at $15k trucks, $5k dry vans and $2 fuel. You’re getting in at the same exact trucks for $40k, same exact dry vans for $30k, and same exact (or crappier (more biodiesel)) fuel for $4.50.
I started with $5k in my bank. Nothing is impossible. It might be worth another 6-12 months of saving as more people dip out and equipment prices go down.
