Personally I'd rather be able to Hear further than I can talk. It doesn't do me any good having someone tell me they had been listening to me for the past hour but had to wait until they got 40 miles closer until I could hear them. Under those circumstances the problem was always on their end Transmitting

I wouldn't go that far as to say I will never patronize his shop. I won't let him work on any of my equipment but he does have lots of things for sale that you cannot purchase anywhere else. I bought my Wilson 5000 roof mount from him and I would make purchases from him in the future I just won't let him tamper with any of my equipment. His prices are very reasonable he's just not a qualified technician.

I was unaware about the issues with Bobs CB. I did my research and saw dozens apon dozens recommending his shop and felt lucky I lived fairly close. I would be willing to have another shop take a look at my radio and setup to make sure its tuned correctly and if this quad 5 turns out to be trash i will cut my losses and sell it to buy a new radio.

I am glad some people know what they are talking about here also. People saying a stock cobra 29 or a single antenna setup are better options completely baffle me. I know a single antenna can be a good setup but as rabbiporkchop said. More is better. The guys i know doing keydown run many, many antennas but they also are running several thousand watts.

As stated in previous posts i am happy with my setup 99% of the time. Its just when i get into a good conversation with someone running way more power than myself that i find i want more just to get a few more minutes of talk, or to talk over all the CB jack holes that like keeping the channel cluttered with BS. Most of my transmissions are to make other drivers aware of a bear, broke down truck on shoulder, accident, traffic, etc. So making sure i am heard if important to me. Whether anyone listens is up to them.

A single antenna bolted to the roof of a car works almost as well as a base station antenna. On a tractor-trailer it's a whole different story. Cancelling out incoming signals from the sides is crucial to being able to hear twice as far ahead of you and the only way to accomplish that is to run a second antenna one on each side of the truck. It also reshapes your radiation pattern and wraps it around your trailer which would not happen with a single antenna on a tractor trailer.

My Sole Purpose on this forum is to help you guys get the maximum amount of performance for the least amount of money.
I hate to see people spend a bunch of money and not be happy with the performance they are getting

Rappiporkchop.. I understand very well that a roof mounted antenna on a large metal surface will perform better than any dual antenna setup. But as you said doing that on a tractor is almost impossible. The dual antenna setup makes my N/S transmissions better but limits my E/W transmissions compared to a single roof mounted setup.

When I'm running from Pennsylvania to California I couldn't care less about the guys coming north on 81 from Harrisburg. I want to hear the East-West guys on the same road that I'm on and the best way to do that is to cancel out those north-south transmission so I can hear further east and west behind me and ahead of me

As i said.. I am happy. Its taken alot of work, testing, and some upgrades. I just want an option to increase my power if needed. If i could do a variable powered amp that took over after the transmission strength of the radio looses its power i would be sooooo happy. I dont wanna go from 70w to 350wwith no options inbetween

By N/S i mean in front and behind, E/W is side to side

That's how my stuff is set up. The amp is controlled from the radio by the variable power knob on the radio. It's totally idiot-proof. I can turn the radio all the way down or turn the radio all the way up and I did not exceed the capabilities of the amplifier. For legal reasons I have nothing hooked up at the moment just for the record in case my ex is reading this.
