As a Sammons L/P, what would you estimate to be your "PAY" mileage rate as far as what you, as the driver, what you can expect to have in your pocket? I've heard it's around $.40/mi after all the expenses are deducted. And honestly, $.40/mi isn't bad compared to some Company driver jobs, but it isn't all that good when you consider you have to do all the O/O paperwork too.
I'm considering them, but would like to know what a driver actually takes home during the lease.

Seems like one of the better l/p deals out there imo. This l/p is designed to get you the title of the truck asap. If you're goal is to own the truck, then it's a good l/p. If your goal is to run their truck, make as much take home as possible before you turn it back in, this is not for you...from what I see. As long as you can keep the rates and total revenue up where these guys are posting, this deal would work with good management on your part...imo

I have been there 28 months and owe about $800 on my truck, could pay it off with cash at any time for the past three months. I have seen guys pay off in a year, but I think they were high mileage trucks. I could have been done sooner but I only run an average of three weeks and take one off. I think around three years is average pay off time. Sammons is a good fit for me and have no plans on leaving till I hang up the keys for good.
dunchues, fargonaz, sydsdriver and 3 others Thank this. -

I'm still here, paid the truck off last December. We were owned by UTI, which was bought by DSV. Things have been changing, only minor stuff so far, company use to make you feel like family, now your getting to be just another number, but as far as making money here and paying off your truck it is still a good place to be.
tscottme, blacklabel and fargonaz Thank this. -
I jumped, it looks like a reasonable place to start. You just need to have your wits about you when looking at and driving your prospective truck; stick to your guns and get EVERYTHING fixed before you leave. Don will look at you like you're taking the last piece of bacon and then calling him an idiot for letting you do it. The office critters are pretty nice, you'll notice the ones that you want to deal with and the ones you don't pretty quick.
Plus, what do you have to loose except some time. The orientation would have been only 2.1 days if my truck hadn't required numerous trips to the stupid stealerships in town. Ruby's is a nice hotel, and the jacuzzi was super nice after a 17 hour car trip! -
What type of trucks are they mostly running these days?

A bunch of 2012 cascadias(old GTI) with isx 450/1650, a few t660 with paccar mx13 and a few VNL780 with the D13. There are some 600K-800K(priced appropriately) but most are right at 500K. All 10 speed, they get new ones all the time. They had a 13 in a t700 but no APU was an automatic disregard for me.
The only trailers they have now are 53' step, mostly Fontaine.
The Cascadia I took has a clean interior and working APU weighed 32,5K empty.Last edited: Oct 29, 2016
