I have a 2001 freightliner Classic. It has 100 gallon tanks. I want to change to 150 gallons. Getting extensions welded are costing too much. I was wondering if I find used tanks do they have to be from another classic or a freightliner or would any tanks from any truck fit?

    Thanks!

for the most part yes they need to be freightliner tanks..... the tanks need to be the same diameter (so you can use the same mounts) fuel cap and gauge must also be in the same spot...... you will need to add a new mount as well unless you have 3 per tank now and they need to be rated for the bigger tanks weight... your old 100 tanks full are about 850 lb. each your new 150 gl. tank full are about 1,275 lb. each

can you add 750 plus lb. and not be over on your drive's or steers.....?

um I haven't ever scaled... We have overweight permits. I haul containers from toronto to jersey ports. But I'm assuming I've seen other trucks with the 150 gallon tanks and be good?

Any good shop should be able to do this. Check Craigslist and ebay for any tanks in your area and then get them installed

Just wondering, why do guys want 150 gallon tanks? Is it just to avoid filling each day? Just asking because there is so much focus on being as light as possible. Thanks.

logbooks. must match fuel to logbooks, less fueling, more room in coloring book.

for me bigger tanks = more money..... I can get more fuel at a cheaper price so I don't need to get 50-75gl. (at a higher price) to get to the cheaper fuel

Are your tanks under the doors with steps mounted over them? Got pics?

if the tanks are under the doors you will need to check you steer weight.... adding bigger tanks MAY put your steers over....
the bigger tanks and 50gl. more fuel will add about 400 lb. to the steers, but 50gl. of extra fuel will get you a extra 300+ miles between fuel stops
my tanks are all the way to the rear
