I have an 07 freightliner classic with a C15 Acert, this is the first acert I have owned but not my first cat. It has just over 20000hrs on the ECM I just had a top end set done on it and I am curious what to expect or see when I comes to getting more hrs out of this engine. On my last oil change it never used a drop of oil and barely turned dark in 350hrs. The service manger told me the acerts are supposed to keep the oil clean and this one definitely is. What should I be looking for and how long does anyone think these engines can go before an inframe? Thank

You guys up in Canada go by Hours and we go by miles. One thing for sure, be prepared to have $20,000 minimum for that inframe!

I got 1.2 million out of my Acert before I needed to rebuild.

If you're not burning oil, it's probably been rebuilt and updated with new pistons/rings.

Last company I drove for had all Accerts. They were all team trucks, and quite a few had over 1.5 million miles without major work. Fuel mileage was all over the place from one truck to the other, but they mostly all ran about the same.

Keep an eye on the oil pressure, and if there is a decent jump in pressure when you let off the fuel around 1500 or more rpm, then I would have the main and rod bearings changed.

Ya up here some go by hours and some don't. I haul oil so I have lots of idle time loading and unloading so going by miles would never work cause it always varies and there is times when it's -45 Celsius and the truck stays running. I have 537000 miles on this unit and it hasn't used any oil and it stays clean but I'm told the acerts are supposed to be that way. Thanks for the pointers just looking for info on what to watch for that may give me signs of an upcoming failure.

Acert's don't typically use much oil, they blow it all out the breather hose and make a mess out of the front of the tanks. Mine made it to 1,001,600 before I had it inframed. It had started taking/blowing oil at the rate of two gallons a week, and then filled the cooling system with diesel fuel. Have no clue what the hours were on it.
