What are the exact procedures an emploer must follow in hiring an O/O/
And where should said employer be reported if found to have not followed DOT requirements? Does this void the contract btwn driver and company?
And finally, what fines and amounts maybe imposed on hiring employer?
Lot of questions, I know. Asking because I need to verify my knowledge on this. Maybe potential issue with company we leased truck/driver on with.

iamdot, I am hoping to get into trucking, but, several years ago a doctor said I had meniere's. I lowered the sodium in my diet and have not been sick for 2 years. Can my doctor sign off on me? Thanks in advance!

Motor carriers can challenge violations cited during roadside inspections using DataQ Challeges at www.safersys.org.
You do not need a header board; however, you do have to add a helper strap when no header board is present.

On other threads everyone is worried about either medical or background checks - I get the background checks, cause most of that is in court docs. But how does a company get medical info - is not most of that stuff confidential and between you and your doc??? Or is there really a big depository full of everyone's medical history for these companies to review? I did not think that hospitals could even report stuff, expect for things such as Alcohol test. I even get the drug testing going into a data base, but things like Diabetes or high blood pressure or even migraines - how do they get that stuff.

This happened recently to a driver i know. He was hauling a load that was under 20,000 lbs in a 53ft dry van. He had a tire on the trailer (RRO) that was worn so bad that the belts were showing so he took it to a t/a to get it fixed. The company said that they didn't want to pay for a tire so they had the mechanic remove the tire and leave the rim on. He said he didnt want to because he didn't think it was safe or legal but they told him it was legal to run on 17 tires because his load was light enough. Is this legal? Is this safe?

I was a company driver driving a company truck when I received an overweight ticket in Colorado. Is there a Colorado DOT rule that requires me to turn over the ticket to my employer; or, is there a DOT rule that says I am not required to turn over a ticket to my employer? My employer's policy says that I will report all contact by DOT, etc. at the end of run on which the contact occurred.
