It really depends on what you want it for? The Garmin Web site does have a compair thing where you can look at the difference. I am not sure without looking at the model but I am not sure it is Trucker Friendly. You may want to look at on that is more suited for truckers if that is what your looking for. Something like a DEZL 560LMT or one of the 510 or 710 Rand Mcnally units.

Are you going to use it for trucking? If so, you're going to want a truck specific device. Since you referred to Garmin, probably the 465LT or DEZL560LT are what you may want to seriously look at. If not for trucking, then the 1450 is fine. A note about the T in LMT-Traffic-it's free alright but it's provided by Navitech and it's full of advertisments of this and that. I found it annoying and as a trucker, traffic is of little use to me anyhow-so I disabled it in my 560LT.

I have a Nuvi 1300; which is a car GPS, but it works perfectly fine when coupled with what I mentioned. And it cost me only $140 instead of $400. -
I agree with you that a GPS should not a replace a map.
I'm not to sure what an EOBR has to do with any of this. We have them as part of our Qual-com system but they offer no guidence what so ever (yes, I know some do but this is an option that companies can get not standard) other then basic short routing which is, as I been told after I complained, more of a suggestion.
There are advantages to truck specific devices over auto-only devices-routing is different (or should be) and POIs are more geared to trucking. On top of that, the top devices offer truck specific warnings and alerts that do, from time to time, come in handy. If one is going to spend the money for a device then in my mind, it makes sense to buy one that is specifically designed for trucking operations.
In my case, my 560LT has been a fairly solid device. Does it make some bad routing choices-yes. But, so do the other devices as these databases and algorythems are not perfect and never will be (why a gps will never replace a map or common sense). And sometimes-not often but sometimes, it comes up with routing that I with all the years I have doing this, would not have thought of.
