Ok, I have been lurking in the shadows here for a while now. I am wanting to get into OTR. I am a currently a firefighter and want to get out of it. I work for the Forest Service and all that stuff.

I currently have a class A with doubles/triples, tank and hazmat. I have had my class A for four years now and had a Class B two or three years before that. I obvously have straight truck experience and water truck experience so I am very good at hoses and pumps. I also do have tractor trailer experience with a lowboy hauling a D6 dozer up in the moutains (oversized load going through the Redwoods in norther Cali is loads of fun). I also train new drivers on the fire engines and how to drive a commercial rig (they always think they are like big cars).

The problem that I am running into is that I have not gone to a trucking school or done OTR before. I really would like to haul flatbed or tanker. And I wouldnt mind doing hazmat (Blowing up or my skin melting don't scare me) but I know most of those jobs are more for more experienced drivers, but one can hope.

I currently have a good job and all that but I want a different pace of life. I would like to work for a good company (don't we all) and get good experience and maybe stick with the company for a long while and maybe become an o/o. Like every other noob on here I would like some input on some companies. I don't really need much hometime and I don't mind if I have to move. Thanks in advance for all your help.:biggrin_25514:

Go talk to Chris at Bettendorf it's local chip hauling, it's the busy season right now and they pay alright . Do that for a while and you can get on with CTS or Gosllin. Atech is hiring also but that's a horrible company, the werner of ltl.

Hell shoot me a pm I'll give you my number and we can talk.

    tdodson03 Thanks this.

PayCheck: I dont have enough posts to send a PM yet, I guess you need at least 7.

I didnt even think of that company, even though I see those trucks all the time. I will be doing some drivers traning with one of the new guys tomorrow so I may just swing buy there.

Local work gets you in the drivers seat.
You might even like it. After a few
Years experience you can go Otr
And school won't be an problem

I am really going to look into driving local. Does anyone know of anything in Northern California? I picked up an app with Bettendorf today.
