Need help bad! Failed my company road test, trouble getting hired

Did you coast through three stop signs and make an unsafe turn? If so, then try a local ready mix company. They wont ask for your certificate and will pay you by the hour. If you're lucky (this IS a special circumstance), they may have you join the teamsters which can lead to several jobs whether your law abiding or not.

 

Those are some pretty huge mistakes in the short amount of time your in a road test!

In addition, if you do find your way to the teamsters, you can practically kill someone and STILL have a job tomorrow. So get some good sleep tonight and get in it tomorrow!!!

 

Call Stevens Transport. They will make you at least go through their training, but I bet they'll give you a job. Be upfront with them. As long as you do that, they will help you out.

I would check your DAC report. Something's not jiving there. What you did during your road test is considered unsafe driving, and I'm wondering if they hit your dac with that. IF NOT, I would leave the whole coasting through 3 stop signs and almost hitting a pedestrian out of your interview. Be tactful about it. Tell your future employer that you were having a really hard time backing and PAM didn't want to take the time to teach you anymore...or something to that effect.

If they did get your DAC, then you are screwed with any of the big companies...and with your experience (or lack thereof,) hiring on with an o/o or small company is going to prove extremely difficult due to insurance. In this case, you might want to lay low for awhile, and drive a dump truck, cement mixer, logging truck..etc. Something local where the bossman doesn't give a #### as long as you can jam gears and hammer down.

If your faced with a situation like that in the future (i.e auto when you're used to a manual,) refuse. Tell them you aren't comfortable operating it. Remember, you are #1 when you're behind that wheel.

 

First are you a US Citizen? I think I picked up on the needing a visa part.

As to failing a road test, that is just someone opinion. I hit another truck pulling out of the dock on a road test. My door scraped his side. He gets all pissy. Anyway, they retested me the next day.

Pam was your school and they did not hire you because they failed to train you properly? So, sue them. They want you to pay for something they did not train you to do? I don't think so. Apply to all of the started companies. In Texas, that would be Stevens Transport. Bottom feeder sure but so is PAM. Just get your foot in the door.

Nothing you are going through is happening for the first time. Relax, take a breathe and figure it out. Network. Texas has a church on every corner. Find one and ask for advice.

 

sounds to me like you should get up nice and early mon. morning and look where ever your at or where you want to work out of and start by going out to trucking companies dress nice but casual, try to get in to talk too who ever does the recruiting explain what your situation and tell them hey i was a little over confident and had never drove an automatic before and it threw my concentration off . good luck to you keep searching you might call HDS TRUCKING out of Tucson AZ i think they haul alot of swift freight and have openings with several differant companies. truckin4aliving hang in there

 

When are wannabes going to smarten up ? This isn't a rare case . This is how CDK mills and comany trainers make their money . I just read in the latest issue of "the Trucker" that carriers aren't increasing their capacity. That means they aren't increasing their fleet size. It's been that way for a couple of years. The reason they run thousands through orientation is because thousands before them failed.
If newbies succeeded there wold be no new trainees to run weeks as cheap tam drivers. Post after post has been made warning against company provided training but new victims keep running there like lambs to the slaughter.
Not everybody has the coordination , perception , and other skills needed to drive a truck. Thousands of wannabes gamble they can do it. Most lose.

 

this is allowed when in training at another state. one applies for a license, using the company address or a motel address as proof of residency.

they are turning you down as you have no proof of any training. you need to back up your words, which right now, you cannot do.

also, no matter the transmission, manual or automatic, you should have not failed. an automatic would have been EASIER to work with, giving you MORE TIME to concentrate on the test. you failed i think because you just didn't have what it takes, and i seriously doubt that you passed the Texas DMV road test with a 100% score. that to me sounds very unbelievable, and yet you failed the company road test..????

how were you able to "free-wheel" thru 3 stops signs with an automatic..??? it was STILL IN GEAR..!!!

there IS MORE to this fable you are trying to pas off on us.

if you got paid anything, you were an employee.

companies get federal monies for training. the total cost of the school could have actually been $12,000, with the government picking up half the tab, the student pays back the balance. or, the cost was $6,000, and since the student failed, the government is off the hook for the cost, and it is passed onto the student. gotta read those documents BEFORE signing..!!!

they never will (smarten up). the "dream" they have of getting a job in a depressed market, the "always wanted to drive, or i like to drive" is a go-getter tactic for the companies to make money off of them, and as long as there is a supply of wannabe's, the massacre will continue.

it's a revolving door that works here, federal funding is dumped into training of the poor, the unemployed, the welfare people to get back to work. companies make this work to thier sole advantage. as you say, some win, but many more lose. the companies are not going to easily give up free monies, free labor, anything that is free, and puts money into the coffers of the CEO's...
