May be federal regulation but only 1 of the 15-20 companies I applied with wanted 10 yrs.
The rest were content with 3. I did not drive before or they would have wanted 10. Federal or not, if you haven't drove, mostly they want 3.
Nobody had a problem with unemployment, just had to prove the periods I was on it. I had a short period with no income, they were happy with two references who could verify that.catahoula Thanks this. -
all jobs look at your work history to see how you fair in jobs. many jobs in a short period throws up warning signs and tend to check in why. Show your jobs and explain about the gaps. On my resume i placed before unemployed from X to Y. They dont need to know you were collecting or how much. Just want an explanation about that time frame. Also shows somewhat you have good bookkeeping and able to take care of stuff. Shows your more professional in trying to get something.
Just show all jobs from say 5 or 10 years history and As a job title Put Unemployed and datesNycmex77 Thanks this. -
I was self employed from 2005 to 2010.
System Transport didn't ask for any sort of verification before giving me a prehire.
May Trucking, on the other hand, required me to FAX them my schedule E for 2008, 2009, and 2010. -
so if you are 22 and apply for a job they want references from age 12 on? lol
j/k that is a rediculous example.
When you weren't working just say you were unemployed, home with the kids, whatever. I think some of it may be for homeland security. They want to make sure during that 2 year gap you weren't in afganistan being trained to bomb a toys 'r us warehouse. -
good one

Geesh, I certainly hope they aren't that picky. In the construction industry, it's not uncommon to get laid off every winter for at least 3 months. I was laid off by one company last December, brought back in March for a couple of weeks, then laid-off again. Got hired by another company a few weeks later, worked 2 months, and things went south for them, laid-off again, and still out of work. During lay-off it is expected you will draw unemployment. The state even has a special category for this.. Lay-off due to weather, and/or Lack of work.
Many decades ago you were thought badly of, if you quit your job, let alone after 10 or 20 yrs. It has slowly evolved to companies are pleasantly surprised if you stay with one job for more than a few years. Terrible isn't it.... -
Its ok if you have gaps in employment you just have to have a notarized letter from someone stating why and what you were doing during these times.

LOL. Well, for the last 10 years, I've been raising children, educating them, cooking meals, chauffeuring them to their respective activities, and raising farm critters....None of which draws a paycheck. So, should I decide to join JCW on the road in 7 years (when the youngest heads for college) I'm gonna have to get creative with the reporting of my "employment."

You could always put yourself down as self employed as selling eggs along the road
