Need help from the winter driving experts

    If you need to chain, then park. I've been doing this for five years and never chained, never needed to. All I run is MN-ND-SD-WI-IA. Plan to miss a few days of work in the winter. What are they gonna do, fire you? Give them a few hours, they'll fire the guy who put his truck in the ditch.

    If you're running Minneapolis to Seattle and refuse to chain, you'll starve to death first. The west is a different game.

    The only way to learn to drive on ice is...go drive on ice.

    That’s pretty much how it is here but the only difference is that it gets to negative 20 here frequently and deicer doesn’t work at those temps.

    Yep. Makes for a long winter of fun, which is why the northern trucking companies pay more.

    The question you have to ask yourself on those days, is it worth driving at 20 mph to get to the better running, or just say the hell with it.

    Oil patch work, you're kinda stuck in the area. Otr, you can run out of it.

    Staying home might just be the right choice, but you asked how to go do it. So give it a shot, take it slow.
