Thanks, I needed to hear this too. Gosh some days are so hard. Being out here the first couple months is putting all my good preparation to the test :biggrin_25524:- i wanna do a good job yet make these mistakes. Then i get upset with myself...but I know it's the frustration that everybody had to go thru at one point.

    Dave,

Which company do you see more of up in your area?

That isn't the most important factor, but is something to consider......

Personally, I'd work for ALMOST anybody before I worked at USX.

Nope never worked there, but I have met the owners a few times....

    Good Luck !!!

Its a very tough job, but your trying and you care. It gets better, but it takes time. I had no idea how rough some days would be.....especially trying to find a new customer and little or no help from dispatch in some of those tight east coast cities!

Its 5 years later, and still learning something new everyday. I'm sure glad I was well prepaired to drive,so my trainer could focus on the tough part of the job.

    Be safe!

I see them both pretty equally. I am leaning more towards USX right now. I hope I make the right decision. I just think I can deal with USX 3 weeks of training. I don't want to train for 4-6 weeks. 4 weeks maybe but I don't know about being out there for 6 weeks. Who knows maybe I would adjust to it and it wouldn't be that bad but from my gut feeling I think 3 weeks would be more doable. Then get my truck and hopefully get routed home but if not stay out for another 2 weeks and then go home. Then after the training I would be a little adjusted to what life's like living out on the road in a truck. Then it would be easier to deal with the 2 weeks out and 2 days home better.

USA Truck is only offering .26 cpm for pretty much the New England states. Average about 2100 miles per week. USX is saying .30 - .34 sliding scale. Average 2300-2600 miles per week. I know nothing is gauranteed. USA Truck is home every week though once I get my own truck for 36-48 hours. Also USA Truck is $50/day for training and that's a long 6 weeks of it. $350/week is a good $200 less than what I was making here delivering beer. The economy in CT is so much different and they pay is so much different than other states. I DO NOT mean that in a condescending way. It just is different. It's going to be tough but I have to make a decision soon I can't keep going insane about this.

The biggest thing is I have to be happy while out on the road by having the right things with me like laptop for internet, tv, my beloved playstation 3 and HOPEFULLY the ability to go online with my ps3. I'm 28 years old but I don't care I couldn't go without my ps3 and I'm not ashamed of it!! LOL

Yeah I would like to know this too. Is it crap because of the traffic and narrow streets or because of the freight? I would think the freight would be one of the best in the country up this area. There are SO many people that live up here. Honestly the last thing in my mind right now is a stressful day. It's just being away from family and adjusting to living in a truck. That's what I am most worried about. I know things will be hectic out there but maybe that's a good thing it will keep my mind off my family and my life at home.

Its about perspective, very tight intersections and lots of traffic, poor signage, no shoulders, must I go on? When you get out west, places like Texas there is so much more room, it even seems the warehouses have more space around them. It will be evident as a driver when you come from the east heading west. So many places up in your area, you have those very tight docks......and the older ones were never made for 53' trailers.
