I swore many years ago when starting out that I would never become one of those companies that wanted to micromanage everything a driver did, however, with drivers mostly relying on GPS, and not being able to read a map and preplan any more, I seem to be at a cross roads.
Some of these guys are simply running too many miles out of route, making poor decisions on loading or unloading sequence, and not taking into consideration time of day and traffic flow patterns or weather.
For some reason some of these guys think that GPS is the Lords hand on your shoulder, so to my point.
We already are on E-logs, and that part has gone over well, as I don't have any one that wants to go back to paper, we do have 7" tablets in all of the trucks with full time unlimited Wi-Fi available to them to google info, check weather, traffic conditions, fuel stops and also give you a birds eye view of an unfamiliar del. or pickup address.
Unfortunately, it just seems as though not many take advantage of it, and I think we are less efficient now then when driver had to actually look at a map.
So what I am looking for is something I can put in the office that I can literally preplan a trip, drag/modify a route, see fuel stops along the way (PFJ), and also have real time traffic and weather at my finger tips.
Then I need to be able to send all of that info to my driver.
I have tried different combinations of platforms and programs, some for traffic, some for weather, I have Co-pilot for routing, but I am just asking if there is something out there that is a one stop shop for all of these concerns? I'm sure Qualcom offers all of this, but we are a small company and I am not sure Qualcom is right for us?
We use XATA for the Elog portion, and when we signed up they promised us this was coming soon, that was over a year and a half ago and still nothing.
Suggestions?
Thanks All,
Stan

I get upset when i can't keep my mileage up one trip to the next
and another company driver says it aint my fuel...........sigh

LOL, Dude, they don't even have to use their phone, the tablets that are IN THE TRUCK, that we supply have unlimited Wi-Fi, yes I can email them a route and tell them about weather/traffic already.
BUT I am looking for office software for me (in the office) to be able to condense all of this info into one package BEFORE I email it to them.
Bottom line is I what them to run more efficient, but I can also make their job much easier. -
Hey CY, I'll give you a perfect example of that, we have always set our trucks to run 68 on the cruise and 72 on the pedal, being a former driver, I always liked having that extra couple of mph when I wanted to get out of a pack, or around a slightly slower truck without holding anyone up.
Now it seems I have people running foot to the floor all the time, my only recourse seems to be to cut the trucks back, again, never thought I would be "that" company.truckon Thanks this. -
