Great job thinking this through carefully. One suggestion I would offer is be sure to ask the schools how much time they train on backing up a rig to a dock. So many drivers are not completely set up for success because they have not been given proper training in backing up a rig. Some schools assume the driver will enter the long-haul segment of the industry where drivers will bump docks maybe twice weekly but these days the overall length of haul is shorter, requiring drivers to bump docks multiple time weekly. It is a sad seeing a driver struggling to back up a rig, finally having to slip a $20 to a nearby driver to get it done.

I don't get the $20 to help another driver. That's just ignorant that a driver would charge another driver that's having a little difficulty.

I do plan on getting partial help from the government for school, but only if carriers do respect the schools on the CalJobs WIOA list. Do you guys think those Los Angeles WIOA schools are respected by the carriers? Someone on this thread said they are. But yes I will probably be calling and checking with the carriers to see what schools they like.

You know who would know which training that carriers accept? Fill out applications NOW and get most of the hiring process out of the way... There is no "best training" there is no "best carrier".. there is a way into the industry and then you can start making real choices as it relates to where you want to go and what you want to do in the industry. First set in your mind what you want to eventually get to as your chosen specialty in the industry, then fill out the blanket apps that send to numerous carriers.. get some pre-hires before you step one wet foot in a school.
