I have a 1989 Peterbilt, 379, with a NTC444 Cumming's engine. There are times where I am able to turn on/off the truck all day long, then there are times where I turn the key and it will not start. Can you please advise me how to start the truck from the starter, with the key on. And also where is the relay, are those the square fuses in the fuse box where one must be connected to the starter?
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Thank you!
Need help starting my 1989 Peterbilt

1st CK. all wires from BATT. to starter, then just cross the small wires at sol. to big hot wire. get a person to strike the starter with a winch bar as you push button, if it starts replace starter.

Can it be done by myself with the key on and I hit the small wire to the hot wire?

Check the ground cable from starter to frame.... Clean it up real good

Forgot to ask if you hear a click as the starter butt. is pushed?

It should be the ground cable or a second solenoid on the firewall????? Follow the wires off of the starter solenoid back up to the firewall..... Looks like the old ford solenoids that were on the inside fender wall.... It was the ground wire when it happened to me...

If you cant jump it at starter than it is definitely a ground wire
rbanuelos Thanks this. -
Yes, you can jump it yourself (just make sure the truck is in neutral, brakes applied).
If you have the ford type looking solenoid, you should be able to jump it there. If you have no problem starting it from there, check your switch.rbanuelos Thanks this. -
