Now, back to our regular scheduled programming. You have gotten some pretty good suggestions. Just starting out I would say this, find yourself a good training company, and it doesn't need to be one of these driver mills out here. Thoughts of becoming a successful L/O? Try learning the industry first, then if that's the way you want to proceed go out and work towards buying your own truck and taking it where you want to, not leasing someone else's truck that controls your every move. I've been a company driver for 34 years, never once wanted to own my own truck. I've had a grand total of 4 employers and each time I changed a job I bettered myself. My company driving ### has bought me my home, put 3 kids through college and put my retirement finances in place. I hope my experience, and those folks that are suggesting some good advice to you is taken with serious thought. I cannot and will not bad mouth any one aspect of this industry, but I will give someone every bit of information that I have accumulated these last 34 years that has put me in the position I am in.

Apology accepted. I can only pass on to someone what I have experienced. Nothing else. I have never spoken to a Prime driver, I do follow Ironpony, and he seems to be successful with Prime, it's not what I wanted to do, (l/o), I took the path I chose and it has worked wonderfully for my family and I.

No worries. I too have been following ironpony and his success with l/o. I am a company driver and it's much different then the l/o side. Prime does offer one of the highest starting cpm that I have seen for a training company. Plus there training program seems to be very good. Most other training companies out there train you for a couple weeks and then send you out on your own. Prime had you drive 40k miles with a trainer and then take a driving test before they send you out on your own. That's one thing I wish I had gone through instead of the program I went through with CRST.

    I appreciate you perspective!

Old Dominion is the constant winner on all the forums I visit (2) and people I talk to.

I think I will work the phones down there and get some names. Then just go down there and see for myself.
Then, who knows, I may just sign on , start slinging boxes and work my way onto a truck.

I think the key is just to show up. Then start showing them what kind of guy I am and that I'm really serious about wanting to
learn how to drive a truck.
