I've been having a problem with my motor since a year already and i thought maybe someone could help me out..
Its a 07 with a c-15 475hp acert in it, the engine pulls real good and gives me good MPG, the problem is when the truck has to pull at full throttle on a long hill it pulls perfectly fine untill i change to a lower/higher gear, when i accelerate again it misses/vibrates like crazy untill i let go off the throttle for couple of seconds and then it pulls fine again..it has been bothering me for over a year now, I had it at a cat dealer today and they did a injector test and they said they were all OK..but that it might be an injector, so how could i find out which injector it does? or something else causing the problem? what i noticed on colder days it does it less then on warm days..

sounds like an injector getting ready to quit..

pretty hard to track down until it consistantly plays up..
i just finaly caught mine and had it replaced... truck runs as good as it can again ( ISX for which i have no love ).

Is the miss from one cylinder? What I'm asking is does it feel and sound like you lost one cylinder or is it a random misfire in more than one cylinder?

If it is one cylinder, than I'm going to say its an injector going bad. If its across more than one cylinder, than I'd say you have a fuel supply problem.

Its hard to tell, but when it does that the whole cab shakes around..so im thinking more then one cylinder, we did another test yesterday, i took the mechanic with, with the tool and we cut one injector at a time when it did that, first he cut # 1 injector and it was worse, all the rest did the same 3,4,5,6. but when he cut # 2 it stopped shakin around but i only heard a missfire but not the "shake" as soon as he activated it again it started again, so i think its something with number 2 cylinder..

If you can talk to the technician ask him to cut out 5 cylinders and isolate each injector by itself. The engine will run on one cylinder if that injector/rings/liner crosshatch are all good. That is one way to isolate an intermitant/developing injector problem.

    I missed this post

I'd say injector #2 is bad. I've seen this a few times where the cut out test will not show a bad injector, but under a load the engine will shutter and sound like it's breaking up across a number of cylinders. It will get worse with time. The injector is actually flowing fuel erratically when it fires, instead a just opening and closing at it's set points. The problem is mechanical, not electronic this is why CAT ET can't see it. The injector is working properly at low RPM and engine load, but acts up as the ECM demands more fuel to hold the tip open longer at higher RPM and engine load.

    Excellent advice.

I think you could take pretty much any injector in any engine and weld the nozzle closed. No computer diagnostic computer could pinpoint that problem.

Might sound odd, but what suspension do you have ?

You're describing something similar to what I went through and if #2 doesn't turn out to be the problem and your running an AG380 suspension check you ride height very closely. Less than a half inch can cause axle wrap issues under power . Free to check, 8.5 inches from the frame rail to bottom of the airbag for me... or an average of 8.5 between the 2 sides if there not dead even.

Its been a while since i updated this thread, but im finally back now with more info, i changed one injector at a time, first i started with #2 and engine still did it, then 1,3,4,5,6. all these changes were in 10,000 miles, engine still does the same annoying thing, i have all 6 new injectors in it now and still didnt fix the problem, the cat mechanic thinks i should replace all 6 injectors again which i think has no use because it did it with the old injectors and with the new ones too..what should i be looking for next? any sensor? im getting tired of this after spending almost 4k and engine still does the same? :-(

im not sure what air bags u have but on my 06 w900 with the ag380 there is almost 12 inches from the bottom of the frame to the mount where the bag sits. is that what ur talking about or is it just the bottom of the bag its self?
