Ok here is the story. I have had my CDL "A" for about half year with 2 months OTR experience. I drove seasonal USPS mail and a little bit of OTR. Now I am looking for a job. I have clean driving record, high school diploma and I am willing to work. Where do I start now. I live in Chicago area and would like to do local but if that is not available where to go please help. Thank you.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

My god man!!!! why would you want to do local around chicago????
-
Well I would like to be home at least every other night and I like to drive around here (Wisonsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa).

Maverick would love you.. If wanted you could see Chicago several times a week with them lol...
I would think the local paper would be full of local driving jobs up there... -
I just quit a company in WI when I moved to TX. We hauled mobile medical scanners to and from hospitals. They have a few scanners bassed around chicago and they are usually looking for drivers but you may not have enough experience yet. You can give them a try though. http://www.sharedmed.com I would still be there if I hadn't moved and I had 7 years in with them. Of course I worked for the shop end of the business not the route driving end and we made better money but had compleatly unpredictable scheduals that would literally change a few times a day. Made it imposible to plan anything in your life. The route driver position would be more normal. I know they pay there route drivers what I consider a lower wage but I have 13 years eperience, at your experience level it's probably the same or more than you would make other places.
Oh and if you get on working for a boss named Ellen (she's a regional manager) tell her AL said hi. she's as cool as they come just don't make her mad. -
WoW! That man must be sick to wanna stay in chicago with a truck!! I wanna cry when i get a chicago load or blackmail someone else to take it ! LOL

Ya, especially LOCAL chicago!!.Well at least if he lives there he probably knows where all them low bridges are. I spent allot of time there but hated it. You can't drive out of southern WI without doing chicago.

Ya no doubt! I remember "nasty old chicago". Last time i went there--my wonderful dispatcher found a way to route me straight into an 11' brigde! LOL Nothing like stopping downtown chicago traffic at lunchtime! Finally got to my drop and it took me nearly 2 hours to get out of downtown--and the bad part is that i was running the load for someone else--not even my load. Needless to say--I told them not to ever expect me to go downtown again! What a friggen nightmare!

I always said they need to build a road that has no exits except to other major Interstates going threw Chicago.. Just one of my crazy ideals...
