i hope this is the right thread to post this in.
I have 5 1/2 months of otr experience hauling reefer for a mega company. I was terminated on Friday due to running out of HOS in rush hour traffic in Oakland, CA and pulling over on an offramp to try to get ahold of someone withing the company to figure out what to do. Break the fed. HOS rule or stay put and break local law. Head of safety got wind of what happened, called me a liability and fired me. Other than that my safety record is spotless.
That being said, im done messing with the mega carriers. I want to restart my career with a decent company that will treat me properly, not try to force me to train and force a dispatch on me when my HOS is running out with nowhere to park. I truly love driving truck and really want to just keep going. Im willing to stay on the road for very extended periods of time and will run as many miles as the company will give to me. So im looking for suggestions on what to do and where to start looking for my next career opportunity. I live in central Georgia. Thanks in advance.
Need ideas on smaller otr companies

@Chinatown should be able to refer you to some companies.

Danny Herman Trucking seems a decent dry van outfit. Trucks have APU and they don't run Northeast. Lots of Southern California runs plus the Texas border towns.
K&B Transportation has guaranteed minimum weekly paycheck of $1125 and you can earn more, but not less.
Magnum Ltd. has an excellent reputation with their drivers.
Titan Transfer - dry van & APU.
Freymiller - APU and other driver amenities.
Abilene Motor Express - dry van and a little refrigerated. May not see the west coast as a solo driver, but not positive. No APU, but still a decent outfit.Last edited: Apr 16, 2017

Why did you even allow this to happen
Yea shipper held me up... customer sliw unlding... should of found a place ahead of time. Stop early. But I need to get my full 11 hours every day.. Bullcrap
Plan better, stop early. Someone complains. Tell them to pack sandDriverMike1984, TripleSix, LoudOne and 5 others Thank this. -
While I agree with your decision to get away from big companies, the situation you were in is a lack of navigational experience. That you will gain, but takes time to know how long areas take to move through. You have to do time, speed, distance in your head, dead reconing on land. If your not gonna make it throught any given area, shut down. Really it's a waste of your resources anyway. But I think any company is going to run you out, IF IT SUITS THEM, so you have to be aware of your, time, speed, distance. If it's not gonna happen, it's not gonna happen. Hope is not a strategy.
Mr.Precious, LoudOne and TruckinJosh Thank this. -
Bt express out if Weatherford oklahoma would take you. They also have a very clean truck opening up this week. I should know, I just scrubbed the floor.

Now tell he truth before we can help you. There is no way a mega fired you getting one ticket. Heck it doesn't even sound like that much happened.
So, why did you get fired?
Also, try and stay away from 1099 companies. Most are not true 1099's and if that's the case they will screw you.ethos, TruckinJosh and Chinatown Thank this.
