Of course you didn't need it. This was a primary example of what you'll experience throughout your career in trucking, a truck driver opining on something he knows nothing about. -
Glad it worked out im also in cali i used my passport and ssi card

copies are NOT ACCEPTABLE! The DMV wants a Certified Birth Certificate WITH A SEAL! If yours does not have a raised seal you will not be allowed to get your license, or even take your tests! I found this out the hard way.

Sigh. You can take other forms of ID. A quick google search about Florida requirements brings up this:
1. Identification
Bring one:
- Certified U.S. birth certificate
- Valid U.S. passport
- Certificate of naturalization
- Consular proof of birth abroad
- Alien registration receipt card
(green card, form I-551)
- Original or certified copy of all marriage certificates or court orders that show your name change(s) (Uncertified photocopies are not valid)
Bring one:
- Social Security Card
- W-2 Form
- Pay check showing number
- Any 1099 form
Bring two:
- Deed, mortgage, payment booklet, or rental agreement.
- Florida vehicle registration or title
- Utility bill or hookup/work order
- Statement from person you live with along with two address documents in that person's name.
jeff1971 Thanks this. -
In Washington you can get a "Certified" copy at any County Seat. You will need that but some states allow them to be ordered online. Overnight mail from Seattle cost me about $60. Check CA for their options.
