I actually did call safety and was tranfered directly to my recruiter who sounded pretty pissed off that I didn't believe him and accused me of hiding something, which I most certanlwy am not. I have no reason to.
I have found it hard to get information from my recruiter as well, so I guess I will just show up and hope that I have everything I need.
Your recruiter wouldnt happen to be Riely Branch would it? Thats who I have been dealing with and he acts like its a hassle to answer any questions at all.
That is weird. Riley Branch was my recruiter for school and I am using him now that I am coming back to Swift. He has never seemed bothered and I pepper him with questions. None the less, it is your perogative to ask questions and it is HIS job to answer them. Ask away! It's never good to go in with less information than you feel you need.
I plan to try to go with Swift as well but because of what I've heard here on the boards I will not go to their academy. I am going to get my CDL locally that way I can go anywhere just in case of any issues.. I too have nothing to hide but I've heard of people getting sent home for anything really.. They give you a list of requirements but I hear that it's not the full list and in fact they check even further back in history then they even say they will, and then come back saying you didn't state something about your history.. Won't even give you the chance to explain.. I've even heard of someone getting sent home because he forgot to check a box on the paperwork but later caught it himself.. When he told them he needed to fix something, they told him to kick rocks because he wasn't honest and it "appeared he was hiding something". Seems to be the growing trend with companies that really aren't interested in you.
Yall are worrying a little to much. for instance When I drove for swift I had a PREVENTABLE accident. (I managed to rip a bumper of a trailer and the dock lock off the wall) Totally and avoidable stupid thing I did. It is on my dac as preventable. And nobody has held it against me. This is all as a rookie driver. t people sent home are done so for there own stupidity. Just be 100% honest of your backround because they will find it Be on time with the right attitude. And bring any and all documents from past employers, id's w2's anything like that to help verify your backround DD214 for military is a must.
The best advice I've heard from anyone on any forum is never to prejudge an outcome. The trucking industry is ramping up from a long period of near-dormancy and they need drivers. The new FMCSA regs are limiting "acceptable" candidates, too, so one never knows whether you will make the cut until the cut is made. Just apply, be totally, completely honest on the application, and hope for the best. You will be tested during Year One - all newbies are - and whether you make it out the other end will depend on YOU. Use the tools you are given and the skills you have and don't spend too much time making decisions based on what others say. Their experience is not your experience. Where you go for CDL training is, of course, up to you. However, consider this: Swift's academy will do two things for you, one that your local CDL school will do and one it cannot do: You will get a CDL and you will begin to learn the Swift way. Your local CDL school has one purpose only--to get your CDL. You will get very little experience in a lot of the things you will do from the start...backing, for example. So put your big boy panties on and make your own decision. Go for it.
I agree I am worrying too much but I don't like being accused by someone hiding something when I haven't been is all. Kind of ticked me off. I'm just gonna go with it and see what happens, I talked to my old job and they said if it dosent work out I can come back. That's more than a lot of people go down there with. Thanks for all the info so far it has kept me from overthinking things
