We live in Saint Augustine, which is about 30-45 minutes away from Jacksonville and 30 minutes from Daytona. I've been looking and looking for a local job for my husband..... super hard to find here in the Jacksonville area. Sure would appreciate any leads. He can't handle a lot of unloading heavy stuff (was a mechanic for 27 years and that took its toll on his back AND knees) and I'm thinking linehaul would be perfect for him. He is getting really burnt out doing OTR. Even a dedicated route, like running up and down Florida, would be great. Thanks for any advice!!!

    the iceman's wife,
    lisa

P.S. We aren't closed to moving, either, if we could just find a good outfit to work for, and stay as close to Florida as we can.... our daughter starts at UNF in the spring and don't want to be too far from her. I'm also disabled and need a place to live where there is plenty of sunshine and not a lot of fluctuation of the barometer.....if anyone has any good ideas, I would so greatly appreciate it!!!!

Ozark Motor Lines is 100% no touch freight, no NYC, no Canada, & runs Eastern half of USA.

McKesson Corporation delivers medical supplies and recently had an ad in Orlando. Check their website, they have terminals/warehouses in many cities.

    Transport America - 99% no-touch freight
Indian River Transport - food grade tanker
Oakley Transport - food grade tanker & trucks have APU's
    CTL Transportation - hazmat tanker

    Tanker work is easy money.

Contact www.saia.com. They really need drivers everywhere. Columbus, Oh. offers 3000$ sign on and "immediate consideration" they say.. They have a place in Jacksonville. I been there b4. I use to work for them in columbus., got fired. Was home almost every day.
Made 75,000$ last year. Worked 5 days a week. All I did was drop and hook and drive. Worked the dock (rarely). Also check out ABF, They pay even better, and their white shirts are more professional. Check out all the LTL companies like S.Eastern Freight lines, AAA Cooper, R and L Carriers, Old Dominion, Estes, Conway, Averitt and USF Holland. Here is a link I found. http://www.truckingboards.com/forum/truckingboards/tb_carrierlist.htmlnd.

I did apply for him at SAIA. Long@ss application!!! And we never heard a word from them. He has 3 years experience, never had a ticket, an accident, or anything else. 100% on time delivery. I don't know what the deal is, why we can't get "anyone" in Jax to respond. The only company that has called him offered him a job from 3am-3pm, six days a week. Even tho he'd be home on a daily basis, all I'd get to do is watch him sleep! LOL. Thanks for the link!!!!

Might check out Averitt Express as well. I think they have a terminal in Jacksonville? Arnold Transportation, in Jacksonville used to have Southeast Regional before U.S. Express bought into them. Not sure what they have now?

Anyone know anything about Hub Group Trucking? And what's Conway Truckload's reputation these days? Thank you all so much for your help!

I work for Conway Truckload right now, and they are not bad. It's still OTR.

    -Hazmat
    -Passport
-They do Site loads (Like delivering to office buildings that aren't furnished.)
-They do have touch freight. (I've had to unload tires, batteries, office furnishings, and other things. Though they pay you to do it.)
-Solo drivers don't get much drop and hook. I'm averaging about 75% unload or more a month (Tractor Supply, Sears, RockTenn, Michael's, and copper.)
    ____________________________________________
    On the plus side:

-Hit my 2.5k mile mark and exceed it most weeks. Have only ever been under a handful of times in nearly two years.
-My current truck has under 200k miles on it. And it's quite clean, and nice.
    -Free Sirius XM
-Cash Advances as soon as you're dispatched for miles. If you start Friday, and get a load Friday for 800 miles, you can get a % of that 800 miles of pay as advance as soon as you're dispatched. I don't use the advances but it's handy to know.
-Conway will pay for showers. I shower every day, that is a big + for me I like to be clean.
-You can use your comdata card to pay for scale tickets as long as you're at a fuel stop. Also a good thing, there have been times when I have scaled 8-9 times or more a week.
-Pet pass, Passenger pass both available.

Conway truckload is for the most part like any other truckload Mega. They pay a little better, and the miles are certainly there if you want them. I'm happier here than I was at my other Dry Van companies. If you can't find a small outfit for OTR van I'd say Con-way is worth the consideration. If I wasn't looking for something to go home with (I live in Dallas, so I have more choices than people in Florida) I'd be content to stay with them for a few more years.

I've heard VERY bad things about Hub Group. After talking to several of their drivers it seems clear the company has exactly zero regard for their drivers. Granted, all of the drivers I've talked to work out of the Chicago area. Take from that what you will.
