I'm going end-dump. I got the tip from my truck dealer who put a decent fleet together built around their freight. He also gave me the number of another O/O running with them if you're interested in getting a reference. I haven't been able to get him on the phone yet but just got his number yesterday.

PharmPhail, I've been reading your posts and I see you are fairly new to trucking. I'm curious about the type of trucking you are going into. I'm not very familiar with that type of trucking, I'm talking about hauling bulk material in hoppers and end dump trailers. Do you know anybody that is experienced at this or are you just planning on learning as you go?
I checked out eclipse and they seem to be OK. I wonder if they do much up in my neck of the woods? Michigan that is.
    TIA
P.S. thanks for the insurance info the other day, I appreciate it.

A reference would be great.there are so many companys and brokers out there trying to get your money it's hard to trust them.Wildbill123 if your thinking about getting into dump work work as a company driver for a while.just incase you turn one over it won't be your stuff.putting one in the air is easy.pulling forward while the trailer is rocking side to side takes some getting used to..but be warned as soon as you get to comfortable or ####y BOOM youll have a big bent up piece of alum laying on the ground.iv'e done it once.seems like it's tipping so slow..i diden't have a breakaway pin on my trailer so i flipped the truck and trailer. Thanks Walt

WallyGator, that's exactly what I was thinking about. I've heard stories about dumps turning over and I have seen at least one lying on its side. How about the hopper trailers have you worked with them much?

yeah i used to haul citrus pellets in a hopper for Walpole. it's not bad except long lines to load/unload.also climbing in and out of the hopper to clean it when changing product was a real pain in the #####.smooth sides and only a rope to help you pull yourself out.also if you dont have a vibrater you have to bang the sides till the product gets un stuck. but at least you unload in a grate rather then dump on the ground.

Yeah fairly new doesn't scratch it. Got my CDL in December. They taught me to drive a truck and that's it. Fortunately I've met a decent group of people that know this kind of trucking well and one of the guys that used to do it is willing to go out with me for a week or two and show me the ropes. It'll have to do. They all seem to be like motorcycle riders who have crash stories. Seems just about all of them have put a truck over on a dump. Man I just hope that never happens. I'm gonna carry a 5 foot level or something with me lol.

I know they go to MI, there's a load on the board right now to Grand Rapids. I can tell you though that hardly any of the loads get posted on that board, only if there's no trucks in sight for that area. Most of the time you just call in to get your load, and they have sort of a dedicated route system if you agree to basically forced dispatch. In other words they're not going to run you that way if you are turning down loads.

just don't let anyone bully you into dumping a load if you dont feel good about the spot.if your going to pull the same trailer get used to the lean.what i mean is park it on a flat piece of ground raise it up and see which side it leans to.sometimes you have to back up on uneven ground just to get it to dump straight.also rember the back set of tires on your trailer are the most inportant.as they hold it up when it's in the air.a flat tire and its on its side. Also don't forget to open the gate.sounds dumb but i see it all the time.do these guys work for eclispe? Thanks Walt

Sounds like great advice, thanks so much.

Well these guys work for the O/O who is my truck dealer, and he gets the freight from Eclipse. Said he used to get some from a company called S&S, but they were terrible and problem payers. Said if nothing else, Eclipse has always paid on time or early. They do have a factoring percentage built in if you need it same day or next day though (2 or 3% depending how quick). Otherwise if you can wait, it's a couple weeks.
