I had called Swift to see if they took students out of my area in SW Florida, and they told me, they had no traffic down here. But just 25 miles north of here is a Walmart distribution center and there are hundreds of Swift trucks going in and out of there every day. Who knows.

That's because Swift wants you to go OTR for 6 months, the trucks you see at the WM DC are part of their dedicated division. You can apply there after 6 months OTR, but you're going to have to get the OTR elsewhere as they apparently have little freight outside their WM contract in your area.

    TRKRSHONEY and Troubador222 Thank this.

Might want to get rid of the dog, because it's hard enough to find a job living in Florida.

    TRKRSHONEY Thanks this.

Keep looking, their are companies. My husband drives for Melton and we don't have much of a problem getting out.

Don't forget lumber, coils, hunter pannels, slinkies. . .Umm mulch. Phosphates, sugar hmmmm I haven't had enough caffine to be racking my brain. And yeah sometimes it means DH'ing a hundred miles, but heck we'ge done that in the northeast.

I've seen all the mega carriers in south Fl. Not that you really wanna go their, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do until you get the experience to get with a better company.

Not sure how far south in FL thy hire, but TransAm goes in and out of there. I just delivered in Lakeland on Monday, took a bit of hometime and tonight am heading back down there to pick up a load that'll take me to Colorado. In a couple weeks I will have my dog with me too. Werner also has a terminal in Lakeland and, if I recall correctly, allows pets.
