I'm a new CDL holder, but have experience driving tankers in the army while in Iraq. I am retired, and I'm looking for a part time driver job. I applied for Schneider today, but don't know when I'll hear back. I'm in the Salt Lake City area. I am looking to make less than 900 average per month. Any help is much appreciated!

Try ANY LTL company in your area. They may have shuttle runs, weekend runs, one nighter runs, fill in runs, etc, etc.
-
Give Schneider a call. They offer MANY MANY choices.
Ignore the current going postal thread in the forum LOL. -
Many carriers will work with you like that. You may have to prove yourself first but if you're upfront with them from the beginning, I think you find some options. You will probably have to work with a carrier that has a "full service" terminal near your preferred home location because you will essentially be "slip-seating" and perhaps sharing a truck with others in similar situation as you or whatever open truck they may have at that given day. You'd probably do a SLC/Boise or Vegas turn-around or something similar where they have multiple runs every day. Hopefully it would be a run that would work out consistently getting you back home and working inside your 11/14 hour rules.
Also, like others said, Schneider and Roehl and no doubt others have special programs for those such as yourself, in select markets. -
Check with Crete. They have a terminal in N Salt Lake, and I think they work military experience.

highly doubt ull get anything part time like this unless you purchase your own truck. but you also need the driving experience to do so also.
If you really want to go over the road Roehl has a very nice honor program for veterans -
And they offer a list of potential jobs a mile long. Week on week off. Name your schedule....etc. -
-
I'm hoping to move to 4/4 or week on/week off in a couple of years. But will hang with the 14/7 for now.
Pay and insurance could be better. But I manage quiet well. And the wife is happy. -
Thank you! Will give it a week and then I'll call Schneider back. Will also look into Crete.
