Hi, I got my cdl in o5 and drove otr for about a year and a half, I quit on good terms to start a small business and have been doing that for the last 2.5 years. My partner bailed over the summer so im getting out of it as well and trying to get back on the road but its not as easy as I thought it would be. Ive been on the phone with schnieder and us express and they both said they will hire me as an experienced driver since 6 months of my driving falls into the last 3 years, but the problem im having is , even though i have experience I havent been in a truck for 2.5 years and I need a little refreshing, im not going to be able to hit the ground running , i dont even remember how to downshift....both of those companies said I would not have a chance to get any practice in and i would have to pass a road test right away and start working which i dont think ill be able to do. I know I can go back to the school i got my cdl from and take a "refresher course" but i dont realy have any extra cash right now. I know some companies have training schools but those are for people without a liscense right? I dont want to have to pay back tuition when i already have a liscense , im kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. I would love some suggestions, thanks

How about if you call the school and ask the if you can pay them for a couple of lessons just to get you back on track. I read in here a guy need to retest and he had a school that he rented the truck and instructor to go with him. That maybe less money.:biggrin_25525:

I do know that there are a lot of independent schools that will rent a truck and instructor by the hour.. I am not positive but i remember seeing something in the 60.00 hr range..
