I recently moved from one state to another. Some 500 miles South from where "our" company is based. I have the truck with me and it is being overhauled in the state where I moved to.
I would like to bring the operation down here but looking into it, it seemed like a headache. I was told that I would have to disolve the business up north, and reopen it down south. Completely register a new company. I wanted to keep the same name.
How does this work with the Dot and FMCSA? I know there's a link of fmcsa to change address but is that all I have to do with them? Also I know I'll need to register for IFTA with the new state, but what do I do with the old one?
Furthermore, I thought of buying the truck from the owner and just starting everything from scratch and have it be in my name. But the disadvantage to that is my insurance will probably be high for a 24 year old but I have been driving for 4 years and my record is spotless.
It is a one truck show and I do everything and I mean everything. We have been in business for a year. Would insurance concider it a new venture?
I'm at a crossroad and any input or advice would be appreciated!
Need some advice/input

If you are incorporated or have an LLC, you can leave your businesses domiciled in the original state. You will have to appoint a business agent within the state to receive official state notices, etc., but that's no big deal - plenty of law offices do exactly that type of work.
As an example, Delaware happens to be an extremely tax friendly state toward businesses. Many, many national corporations are incorporated in Delaware though they really don't business there. -
How about than the whole ifta/dot thing? I can't have a truck registered in state a and have it parked in state b while I do all the business work in state b, like find loads, trip reports, and keep all the necessary documents in the new state.
