Hey guys. I got a slight dilemma here. I have two job offers sitting waiting on my word. One is from a Mom n Pop type company. Running transfers for Perdue with a flexible schedule. The other one is from UPS freight but the way the manager at UPS talked having a life outside the company is impossible. I can go into detail with that if need be. But wanted some opinions on what you guys think.

IMO I would go with UPS. Benefits, retirement, Paid vacation, Job security. Mom & Pop could be gone tomorrow and they probably do not offer anything extra.

go with the mom and pop. the better you do will take notice sooner. UPS, it will be like "on the rock pile". great bennies, but you will work for it.

This is pretty much industry standard. You work long hard hours. When you aren't working, you are too tired to do a whole lot of "outside activities."

It sort of depends on your personality, and what your long term goals are. UPS probably offers you more stability than mom and pop. But mom and pop, if they are decent people may give you better experience for on down the road. Particularly if you are looking to go O/O some day. UPS is pretty much a career.

UPS Freight and Parcel are two different animals, similar in that they share the UPS in their name. Similar to all the LTL waiting by the phone bs, and UPSF is in the middle of contract negotiations right now.

Mom an pop are actually offering bennies. Or well atleast this company is. The retirement yah I do like that but I can start a ira at my bank. So that's that. What I didn't like in the interview with ups was no vacation allowed in summer. I got a little and we go to Fla yearly in the summer. So I kinda have the kid in mind if that makes sense.

    Big Don Thanks this.

the way I look at it, I'm a name not a number, Mom and Pop will call you by name (good or bad) and treat you like family, UPSF, driver #459875 your run is ready.

I worked for 3 "mom and pop " companies and they all closed up, 1 of them while I was working with them, they sent a letter to me and another driver stating this was our last week, Never got paid for the last week either, I would go UPS. stability is good
