Ok, so here is the deal.

If you have had a CDL for 14 years and it has been 10 years since you actually drove, how do you show any experience under the FMSCA guidelines for the DOT audit? If you are going to be an O/O anyway does it matter? I've been searching all over to get an answer, but no luck.

Are you talking about the safety audit you recieve shortly after getting your own authority?

If you don't have it then you don't have it. So I think your question is; How can I fool the system into thinking I have it? That has been a topic on this board before and remember this is a public forum that the DOT also reads.

as long as you can get insurance it doesn't matter to them how long it's been as long as you have your application and all on file.

    Thanks all!

Dryver - not trying to do anything illegal, that is why I am asking. I did not know if being it has been awhile that the time lapse would matter. According to everything I have read they want to show in the driver file past work history, but the history would only go back to the previous job which is NOT a CDL driving job. I hope that makes sense.

7mouths - Yes, the safety audit for your own authority.

Well then your worries are over. :biggrin_25525: The audit will be within 180 days of recieving your authority so you will have that experience and those records for them to view. The audit is a inspection safety audit. They will review your records and insure that you have all the documents required in proper order. They are only there to let you know what you are doing right and what you need to correct. There are no fines or other penalties involved in this. One of the most missed items is an application to your company from YOU! LOL Be sure to have a pre-employment drug screen in place also.. Best of luck!
