Rookie trucker looking for a company to take me on. Ive been turned down by alot of companies so far for various stupid nit pickey reasons. 1. I have a 13 yr old felony that some say is the reason. 2. A accident that happened last feb. Those have been the two biggest rejection reasons. I was with a local intermodal company under a friend of mine as a o/o for a few weeks until I had a 80 yr old lady slam into the container because she didnt have her glasses on and couldnt see that i was broke down, i wasnt even in the truck and they fired me for it. Right now I have swift and wse looking like they want to hire me but i do have 3 kids and want to get maximum home time im not unrealistic and know im probably have to go otr for at least 6months until i can find a home every night job. Any guidance as how to approach the trucking companies so they won't exploit me too bad or any other companies that maybe i havent thought of or how to get with another chicago intermodal companies i need some help im close to going to drive a school bus:biggrin_25510:

You got the intermodal exp. And there are many of those type jobs here in the windy. I did the intermodal thing for about 4-5 yrs. before doing LTL.
Try Pacella or cushing, they are the bottom feeder type companies and will take anybody, Also Check craigslist.

    By the way Welcome.

I'm just a newb starting out with Schneider, but they do seem to have a good program. I picked them because they have several different programs, good training, and decent starting pay.
    you can go.

7 days out with 7 days at home or....
    14/7 or
    21/7 or
    14/2 or
......with some luck, local runs ...home every night.
Apply online and be honest with your past...chance are, they will at least be willing to talk with you.

Have you tried Werner? After the initial OTR they have a lot of different options.

Thanx guys for the help let me update...C.R. England turned me down because of a ticket i had and it has to be 3 yrs old. I wanted that one because they could put me in a local route immediately :biggrin_25513:. Swift called me this morning and I can offically go with them but what I'm trying to find out is what are the chances of me going to a dedicated or local route with them because I REALLY dont wanna go OTR for 6mo - a year. If anybody has any insight on this please let me know

Swift would not be a good choice, you will be OTR for a while. Dedicated, Regional and Local are hard to get. I quit for same reason.

Be careful about 'home every night'. You may wind up with next to no time AWAKE at home. Allot of local/regional jobs can run you ragged. Good luck.

I talked to the swift recurter and he said that since I'm in the chicago area I have the option of getting on their sears account after training. He said with that account I would run Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan he said basically I would horseshoe around Lake Michigan which would definitely be ideal for me. Anybody know about this route or can give me any details.
