Hey guys, I'll be short and to the point, as the confusion of all these bottom feeder companies and which one to go with is wearing on me. I'm trying to find a company that isnt promising the moon and a steak dinner only to find out its B.S. just to get you in the door. I was with Quest Global, good company but a team only, and my co driver had some medical stuff pop up and cant run, so im forced to find a good solo company. Im in East TN (Knoxville area) and have All Endorsements and just shy of a year (by about a month apparently). Really looking for Home every week Dedicated or Regional. Does anyone know any good under the radar companies I could look into besides the usual werner, swift, CRST, Prime, CR England ext? So far Ive applied at Marten Transport, Smith Transportation (which looks pretty darn good if they'll take me) and interstate distributor. My number one choice would be a true dedicated run (same place back and forth) or an LTL shuttle/linehaul gig, but cant seem to get anyone to give me a shot because im short on experience by a few weeks. one Achilles heel I have is that my manual transmission experience is VERY limited as everywhere ive worked ran automatic fleets (seems everyone eventually is going this way). I actually wouldn't mind learning down the road and if I ever want to last in this industry, better get used to it...however, im in a pinch and need a job, and my fear is failing the drive test because I grind a few gears on the downshift. at any rate, any suggestions for this area?

Big G express is out of tn and have heard they are decent.

I would say the best money would be with an ltl doing "regional" or wild extra board as they call it. I'm looking to do this soon

Not quite having a year might be a problem, smaller companies may tend to overlook that and call it an even year

I don't think a LTL company would take you if you have problems shifting... Try a O/O and learn to drive manual that way you'll be more prepared for a road test

You are going to learn that Manual Mister. That will make you a much more valued driver.

Fleets went to autos to get more bodies in them trucks.

Now I liked my first auto because every time it's time to shift Im reaching for the stick only to feel her shift properly for the situation. I do keep the auto in pure manual for downgrade work.

The problem with the auto is that under a Team, you never shut the truck off and you end up bricking the software box on that transmission requiring a tow back. Ive had two tows for that reason that year. I did take some abuse from the Company officers who were having a bad day and wanted a whipping boy.

He is the man by no means. While to OP is waiting for Chinatown to grace our presence he can start reading about all the bottom feeder companies that have blogs here to get a first hand opinion about all those companies to help form an informative opinion.

Burkhart Enterprises - based in Knoxville and runs regional.
A&R Logistics - 6 mos. driving experience required, home weekends, take truck home if you want.
    Reinhart Foodservice
Schneider Bulk - tankers and I think they have a facility in Knoxville.

Just because you're just a few days or month short of a year experience, don't let that stop you from applying anywhere. Burkhart, just visit the terminal and apply that way.
