Gas stuff does go much further these days due to fuel injection and computer management. Depends on how many stops and starts she makes and miles run. Some of the new high cube vans are very big inside too. I also you assume over maintenance your stuff like I do.

You guys are funny, replacing engines?

Seriously when the truck engine craps out, you replace the truck.

These are not class eight trucks but box trucks which are cheap.

I ones own a moving company, gas is not the way, if gas was the better way to go, look at UPS and FedEx, not ground, a gas engine will not out do a diesel engine, I own them both back in the day, and the gas was a wast of my money. Diesel engine is made to work not look good are smell good,

In all seriousness, what about an older bread truck or an ex Frito Lay machine? A lot of those that I have seen have the little 4BT Cummins diesels. Pre emissions and I feel like a nice compromise between the gassers and the newer diesels. For those arguing about prices, we just spent 23,000 dollars for a 6.4 Powerstroke replacement in an F550. A 4BT replacement would cost roughly a third of that in an older Grumman stepvan. Just sayin......

Want diesel buy a used Penske.
Want gas buy a used uhaul.
For my money is go with the penske, and get 100% maintennce and repair records. Since the day it was put into service.
Is considering gas then consider this. Remember the last time you had furniture delivered, (DIESEL) When you were at the local 7-11, what kind of truck was delivering there (DIESEL) . What kind of truck do your local movers use (DIESEL) What the other people contracted to your company, doing the exact same thing drive? I bet (DIESEL) Guess everyone doing similar and same job are all wrong.

op is not talking about carrying a lot of weight which a diesel would be good for, they are talking about potato chips, in that case a 1 ton box truck with a chevy 6.0 gas engine would be perfect, something as simple as injectors on a diesel would cost more to replace then an entire 6.0 chevy motor which would easily eat up the difference in mpg and those new ls motors get good mpg my 6k Yukon gets 24mpg on the highway with a 5.3 and 4wd

6.0L GM is a fuel pig though. But its almost bulletproof.

We had a 6.7L go in one of our 550's. Think it was about $25k CAD for longblock plus install.

For a complete drop in gas engine a guy's probably going to be looking at around $5-$10k installed.
