Hope its in the correct forum...I currently have class b cdl with hazmat and it expires 12/19/2014 this year. I have to do the background check again and according to the TSA website you have to do it every time you renew your cdl. But i have just seen that fingerprint background check is only good for 5 years and somehow in the messed up time frames it works out that it will be 5 years this tuesday 7/8/2014...they are closed today so basically i am asking if im screwed. I cant work if i dont have a hazmat. If anyone knows please let me know thanks
Need some immediate help about hazmat expiration/renewal

OK let me get this straight.
Your hazmat is expiring in December of this year. you of course have to have a background check done which include the finger print thing.
The finger print thing is good for five years, which I was told only a year but that's beside the point.
So you need to know if you can work if you don't have hazmat?
Yep you can't work if you are hauling hazmat - that answers YOUR question but not address the issue I think you are talking about.
See here is the thing - you don't have to worry about the finger print thing or the background check, that's all gone and done with when you get your license renewed and you have that endorsement on it. YOU have your endorsement which expires in December so you can haul hazmat until the day it expires (well technically until 11:59 that day) so relax, this is not something that won't stop you from driving. -
I do believe that you are good until 12/19/14
but it does take up to 60 days for clear a new background check , so you'll want to do that in October or so -
Well im freaking out lol. yeah i do realize i cannot haul hazmat without that, and that would be the end of my job as i haul it everyday, guess thats why i am nervous lol. On the tsa website faq, it says you have to redo fingerprint check when you renew your cdl to keep hazmat endorsement. But have read elswhere that the check must be done at least every 5 years, and was worried that I may be getting a letter in the mail or something saying my license has been revoked or something of that nature. I am scheduling an appt today with local fingerprinting today. I hope youre right and thanks for the info. I live in ohio i meant to mention that. Thanks

I wish they could somehow simplify this process, seems unnecessarily complex
